Position Summary

Do you thrive on the fast-paced, rapid-response nature of the news cycle?? Do you love the thrill of pitching a reporter and successfully getting a story placed? Do you have a knack for turning research reports into catchy press products, and prepping spokespeople for interviews? A.US seeks a Deputy Press Secretary to help drive our work. The ideal candidate is a savvy media professional and team player who is comfortable getting on the phone with reporters to pitch stories and help drive a narrative. This position requires incredible attention to detail, superior organizational abilities, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Some weekend work may be required.

Required Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Ability

  • Minimum of 4 years communications experience required.
  • Minimum of two years of political experience working on a political campaign or for a political committee or on Capitol Hill.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with the media, creating pitch angles, developing press materials, and pitching.
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills and a track record of garnering media attention.
  • Comfort operating in an extremely fast-paced environment.
  • Track record of using research to develop innovative, high-impact communications and campaigns.
  • Ability to successfully work cross-functionally across teams, demonstrating strong collaboration and relationship building skills.
  • Self-starter that is innovative, flexible, nimble, focused and not afraid to try out new ideas and fail.
  • Commitment to progressive values.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity inclusion and justice.

Other Essential Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Monitor opportunities to advance Accountable.US' values, positions, and brand through media activities;
  • Build and maintain reporter relationships and lists;
  • Draft and edit talking points, press releases, op-eds, memos, and other communications;
  • Pitch print, broadcast, and new media reporters, editors, and producers;
  • Prepare talking points and spokespeople for press opportunities including supporting media training;
  • Represent Accountable.US and coordinate with partners by attending meetings and conference calls;
  • Coordinate with digital colleagues to provide and help draft content for social platforms, website, blog posts, articles and other digital communications;
  • Send mass emails, press releases, and posts materials online;
  • Produce detailed reports of project activities; and
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $70,000-$90,000. Exact compensation package is commensurate with experience.
