Essential Duties
1. Oversees one or more areas of focus in Prospect Development, setting team goals and assisting in the overall leadership of the larger Prospect Development team. Plans and directs work in support of the overall mission. 2. Collaborates with and supports the Director of Prospect Development to ensure that we have a comprehensive prospect research, identification and reporting strategies. 3. Utilizes advanced research tools and methodologies to identify and evaluate potential donors, including alumni, parents, friends, foundations, and corporations. 4. Analyzes and interprets data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities in donor behavior. Develops data-driven fundraising goals and metrics for the team. 5. Works closely with the broader development team to support tailored cultivation and solicitation strategies based on prospect insights. Ensure effective tracking and reporting of prospect activities and progress. 6. Collaborates with colleagues across division, including gift officers and other essential partners, to ensure a coordinated approach to donor engagement. 7. Provides leadership and guidance to Prospect Development staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Hires, assesses and supervises staff, overseeing work/workflow and setting standards and goals for the team. 8. Develops long- and short-term Prospect Development strategies in consultation with unit leadership and team members. Devises methodologies to identify and/or assess potential donors and/or new donor prospects. 9. Serves as subject matter expert, advises clients and ensures that team is assessing and responding to client needs appropriately. 10. Keeps abreast of industry trends and best practices, incorporating those trends and practices into work of the team. 11. May perform other duties as assigned.

Position Focus:
The Deputy Director, Prospect Management in the Prospect Development team serves as the Prospect Management lead of a dynamic team and is responsible for creating optimal portfolios, strategic prospect pipelines, effective tools and training, and donor-centric fundraising policies that secure philanthropic support for Yale University.
Essential duties include: Oversees overall strategy, design, training, Prospect Management guidelines, and policies that increase the effectiveness of fundraising objectives. Assists senior leadership in developing and implementing methods of measuring and stimulating individual and organizational performance. Implements a research-driven Prospect Management and tracking program to help guide the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospective donors in an efficient, organized, and timely manner. Collaborates with fundraising staff, senior leadership, and internal clients to understand their informational and business needs and develops innovative solutions to address moves management and fundraising strategies. Conducts semiannual portfolio reviews with fundraisers to assure portfolios are filled with the most promising prospects, balanced by fundraising stage, age, capacity, inclination, and other indicators to maximize return on fundraising efforts. Creates and ensures timely delivery of major gift fundraising activity, pipeline, and ad hoc report analysis to unit leaders and senior leadership. Creates a process to analyze development officer portfolios and sets standards for quality control with the goal of placing the right prospects with the right gift officers, optimizing the distribution of constituents to maximize gift yield. Provides leadership and guidance related to best practices for Prospect Development and relationship management, serving as a resource to fundraising managers and answering questions regarding prospect tracking and portfolio analysis. Synthesizes and analyzes prospect data, conducts, and reviews audits, and monitors data integrity for the purpose of improving the quality of the prospect-specific data. Assists prospect researchers to develop and acquire skills and abilities related to using Prospect Management tools and reports. Collaborates with technical teams to identify opportunities to leverage technology to facilitate information delivery.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Expert knowledge and skills in internal databases. Advanced organizational and project management skills. Expert knowledge and understanding of fundraising and donor relations concepts and practices. Prior experience in a fundraising setting. Experience leading teams, working independently as well as collaboratively to achieve goals, with a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
