DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide support to the Chief Engineer and share responsibility for the Office of the Chief Engineer, which is responsible as the Commercial Space Station Technical Authority.
  • Provide strategic technical leadership, guiding the company's engineering teams in the design, development, and operation of the Space Station.
  • Oversee a robust requirements management process, ensuring that all engineering activities align with project and customer requirements.
  • Oversee the integration of various subsystems and components to ensure seamless functionality and performance of the Space Station.
  • Lead design reviews, ensuring that all engineering aspects meet safety, performance, and regulatory standards.
  • Establish and maintain design documents, engineering standards, and best practices to uphold quality and safety in Space Station projects.
  • Identify potential engineering risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure mission success.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address complex technical challenges and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Encourage a culture of innovation within the engineering teams, fostering the development and adoption of new technologies and methodologies.
  • Manage engineering budgets, ensuring cost-effective solutions while meeting project requirements.
  • Develop engineering project plans, timelines, and milestones to track progress and achieve objectives.
  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with industry regulations and standards, working closely with regulatory authorities as needed.
  • Presentation of results and recommendations to internal team and external customers.
  • Organize and coordinate pricing and proposal input data for additional proposals and current projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience


Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical, or related field
  • 10+ years of related experience in space flight hardware development, design and certification for aerospace human rated systems.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex aerospace projects, through the full product lifecycle from concept to flight qualification including program milestone briefings (i.e. SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR,etc)
  • Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and mentor a high-performing technical team
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail and a focus on delivering high-quality solutions
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, management, and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated leadership and implementation of lean methodologies in a manufacturing and design environment

Desired:

  • Master's Degree or equivalent in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or related field
  • Experience with ISS rendezvous and proximity operations or similar automated spacecraft mission sequencing
  • Strong understanding of NASA program, processes, operations, and architecture from a commercial provider perspective
  • Experience with Space Station or integrated, human-rated system operations
  • Experience leading engineering teams and organizations at a senior manager or director level
  • Experience with the Atlassian software suite or other agile development tools
  • Exposure to the development of high-reliability, radiation-tolerant, radiation-hardened flight hardware intended for prolonged exposure to extreme space environments.
  • Ability to monitor hardware and software design teams with critical insight to know when teams or REs are not on path to successful implementation and help direct the team to a successful solution.



Essential Functions

Work Environment: Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Requirements

  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.

Physical Requirements

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
  • Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
