Deputy Chief Engineer

 

LeoStella is a state-of-the-art small satellite design and manufacturing company based in the Seattle area. At LeoStella, we are redefining how high-quality satellite constellations are built at scale. Our focus is on developing and using intelligent and agile engineering and manufacturing processes to accelerate the development and production of small-sat constellations, all while lowering costs and increasing on-orbit capabilities.

Position Description:

This role reports to and supports LeoStella’s Chief Engineer as the technical authority of the organization and works across all programs through the full product lifecycle from business development to on-orbit operational support, ensuring on-time delivery of high quality spacecraft that suit customer needs.

You will serve as a technical process and design auditor, providing internal and external stakeholders with confidence in LeoStella technical approach and products and auditing suppliers to ensure technical quality. You will ensure that spacecraft development activities are consistent with LeoStella technical standards as well as LeoStella product line definition. And you will act as a problem solver deployed to rapidly assess, mitigate, and close highly complex technical issues that arise.

These responsibilities manifest in several activities including but not limited to concept and technical proposal development, risk assessment and mitigation planning, arbitration of key technical trades, product line management, satellite constellation system design, software and hardware system design, test and documentation review, design analyses and trade studies, and failure and anomaly investigation.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the investigation and closure of critical technical issues (test failures, on-orbit anomalies, design challenges, etc.)
  • Independent review and signoff of critical deliverables such as milestone design reviews and end item data packages
  • Interface directly with customers and suppliers to manage specifications, define future products, troubleshoot hardware and software development challenges, review test data, etc.
  • Ensure development programs adhere to LeoStella product line definition
  • Participate in product roadmap definition and business development activities
  • Develop and maintain technical risk assessment and mitigation plans across LeoStella’s portfolio of programs and products
  • Maintain up to date and in-depth understanding of the state of art in satellite design, development, test, and operation
  • Review and approve major technical trade studies and design decisions
  • Maintain awareness of components and technology development on the market to support LeoStella future product needs

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in design, development, production, and operation of spacecraft systems and/or subsystems
  • Deep knowledge of spacecraft systems and subsystems along with their interfaces and dependencies
  • Impeccable and unwavering attention to detail
  • Must be a U.S. Person

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficient with modeling tools and scripting languages such as Matlab/Simulink, Python, or STK

 

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Compensation range is $160-210K + 10% target bonus
    • Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case by case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
    • Base salary is one part of your total rewards package - you may also be eligible for up to 10+% potential bonuses. Additional employee benefits are detailed below as well.
