Job description


This position performs a full range of Departmental Technician duties and is responsible for the collection, analysis, and distribution of sex offender data. The function of this position is to respond to numerous incoming requests from registration jurisdictions, law enforcement agencies, registered sex offenders, and private citizens, and to ensure the Sex Offender Registry (SOR) contains accurate and complete data. Additionally, this position is responsible for prepping records for incoming offenders, processing offender out-of-state moves, and performing second party checks on initial registrations entered by other agencies. The position also serves as the point of contact to the Michigan Department of Corrections and other registration jurisdictions regarding incoming and outgoing offenders.
POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Michigan State Police (MSP) is a full-service policing agency with statewide jurisdiction, providing over 60 different services either directly to Michigan residents or in support of other law enforcement agencies. The MSP personnel most visible to the public are the uniform troopers whose primary responsibilities include traffic enforcement, crime prevention and investigation, and community engagement and service.

Education

Education typically acquired through completion of high school

Experience

Departmental Technician 7

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service.

Departmental Technician 8

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service.

OR

One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service.

Departmental Technician E9

One year of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.

OR

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.

OR

Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service.

Departmental Technician 7

Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Departmental Technician 8

Possession of a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Departmental Technician E9

Possession of a Bachelor's degree and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.

This position requires passing a pre-employment screening, including passing a drug screen, criminal history background check, and a fingerprint check by the Michigan State Police.
