Apply Now General Overview The Department of Public Works Crewperson is responsible for the daily maintenance, upkeep, and operations of City streets, grounds, open spaces, public areas, buildings and properties for the Department of Public Works. Work is performed under the general supervision of the DPW Supervisor and DPW Foreman. Job Description Summary Examples of Duties: a.

Operates small equipment such as hand tools, power tools, air hammers, chain saws, sprayers, weed whackers and trimmers, electric and hydraulic tools and equipment. Operates large and heavy equipment such as grader, front loader, street sweeper, stump grinder, all tractors including all attachments, sewer cleaning equipment, weed transport barge, and all other equipment requiring a certain degree of skill in their operation. b.

Operates snow removal equipment and sanding for ice control. Plow snow, haul snow, shovel snow, and salting duties. c.

Make minor adjustments and repairs as directed on all City equipment. Check assigned equipment for safety, brakes, lights, oil, tires, etc. d.

Maintain, repair, and general upkeep of City buildings and facilities including cleaning, painting, and janitorial assignments. e. Construction and repair of streets, alleys, and sidewalks including patching streets, street crack sealing, and related asphalt and concrete repairs.

f. Manhole and catch basin repair. May dig out storm and sanitary sewer manholes, assist in rebuilding and pipe replacing, and any other miscellaneous sewer system problems.

Assist with the Jetting Truck. g. Aquatic plant and lake management activities to include installing piers, maintaining and removing piers, maintaining lake buoys, lake weed removal and disposal, maintaining shorelines and river waterways.

h. Perform or assist with manual work in maintenance and construction or carpentry repairs. i.

Refuse collection, animal pick up, and kennel maintenance. j. Landscaping and terrace work.

k. May be assigned as group leader and instruct other employees on equipment operations. l.

Responsible for adherence to safety rules and regulations. Observe and comply with all required safety precautions to avoid accidents or property damage in the operation of heavy and specialized automotive equipment. m.

Be able to work from oral and written instructions, maintain required records such as time sheets, material slips, etc., and prepare reports when necessary. n. May also act as inspector when new storm or sanitary sewer lines are installed.

o. Respond to call ins and report to work after hours and on weekends on short notice for snowplowing, emergency work, and etc. p.

Perform other Municipal related work as directed. May perform less skilled assignments when necessary and other duties as assigned. Summary of Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities General Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential job duties and responsibilities and to perform general maintenance and repairs to City streets, grounds, open spaces, public areas, buildings, and properties.

Knowledge of sound principles and practices in the safe and effective operation of specialized and motorized equipment including lawn mowers, trucks, tractors, and other maintenance and construction equipment used in snow removal and improvements of grounds and road facilities. General mechanical knowledge and aptitude of and familiarity with the maintenance, lubrication, and repair of such equipment. Considerable knowledge of the tools, methods, and materials used in the building trades such as plumbing, welding, electricity, carpentry, masonry, painting, and etc.

Knowledge of traffic regulations for motorized maintenance equipment Knowledge of all applicable safety practices, procedures, hazards, precautions, and regulations. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions including the ability to read instructions for operation of equipment and use of supplies, labels of chemical supplies, and to determine quantity and quality of application of chemicals and set calibration of equipment for application. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, plans, schematics.

Ability to perform tasks on a regular basis which require frequent standing, climbing, lifting, reaching, bending, squatting and carrying. Ability to perform duties with varying heights. Ability to work in a variety of temperatures, weather and working conditions.

Ability to work as a team member and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and other employees and to effectively communicate with the public in a courteous and tactful manner. Ability to work with a minimum of supervision. Ability to lead the work of others.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Additional Information QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: *Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.

*Minimum of two years of construction, maintenance, or related experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: *Possess and maintain a valid Wisconsin Driver's License. *Possess and maintain a valid Wisconsin Driver's License (CDL) from the State of Wisconsin.

*Must be able to respond to call-ins, work overtime, and report to work with little or advanced notice if required.
