Description

Pharmacists Mutual Insurance has an opening for a Dental Risk Management Consultant. This role will plan, recommend, develop and implement strategic initiatives for the prevention and control of risks impacting members and the company.  Also provides technical expertise to the resolution of specific member loss problems or control needs.

Essential Functions

Essential Function may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct Risk Management surveys of member locations to identify management control deficiencies associated with dental practice. Prepare for visits by evaluating loss experience, reviewing customer files and by having discussions with sales and underwriting as appropriate.
  • Assist members in correcting control deficiencies by developing recommendations, providing consultation and supplying necessary tools and resources as a value-added service.
  • Respond to inquiries from members, sales partners, underwriters and management. Provide information, analysis and support as required. Coordinate responses requiring input from multiple sources.
  • Monitor federal and state regulations and industry standards for the dental industry.
  • Research and analyze, write technical articles, evaluate loss data and present information as dictated by the project requirements.
  • Timely completion of assignments with documentation to support all activities
  • Assist with Risk Management Intels and publish/post as scheduled; maintain the Dental section of the Risk Management center (RMC) with pertinent information.
  • Develop, schedule, and present Dental Risk Management topics to colleges, universities, associations, and other interest groups.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to operate independently and "self-start" with minimal direction and oversight.
  • Understands coverages, business functions, and risk control aspects for primary industry segments, as well as general hazards and controls associated with any ancillary activities.
  • Expertise in dental professional Risk Management.
  • Functional knowledge of hazards and controls associated with dental operations.
  • Maintains technical proficiency through continuing education, maintenance of technical designation(s) and independent work.
  • Ability to utilize computer and related software effectively.
  • Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, vocabulary and punctuation.
  • Skills in Microsoft office computer programs.
  • Ability to conduct independent research using internet.
  • Possesses inductive and deductive reasoning skills to interpret information and communication skills to effectively share results verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and understand regulatory compliance regulations and respond to technical inquiries.
  • Ability to communicate with regulators verbally and in writing clearly and concisely.
Qualifications

Experience and Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of related experience; or
  • Master's Degree with 2 years of related experience

Special Requirements, Licenses and Certificates

  • DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) or DMD (Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry or Doctor of Dental Medicine)

 

 

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

Physical Requirements

  • Vision sufficient with correction to read small print in communications, policies and on the computer screen 
  • Hearing or other means sufficient to understand conversations in person and over the telephone
  • Speech sufficient to make oneself heard in person and over the telephone
  • Mobility sufficient to move around in an office setting
  • Dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment
  • Strength sufficient to lift and carry routine office equipment weighing up to 30lbs.
  • Endurance sufficient to maintain productivity throughout entire shift
  • Mobility sufficient to walk, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch and crawl as required when conducting field surveys
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle while traveling to customer locations and meetings

 

Work Environment

  • Primary work environment is in a climate-controlled office setting
  • Work may involve travel to attend meetings at other locations
  • Primary work environment will be in a Pharmacists Mutual office or the employee's home office
  • Work may require travel and field time in all weather conditions
  • Must wear appropriate protective clothing and equipment as needed
    • This could include respirators, hearing protection, protective outerwear and protective footwear
