Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM) is seeking a Dental Pre-Authorization & Coding Specialist for Rutgers Health University Dental Associates (RHUDA) - New Brunswick.
Under general supervision of the Program Administrator, this position carries out a variety of services related to submission of patients' pre-authorization to insurance in an assigned section of RHUDA New Brunswick. This position performs patient third party Pre-Authorization/Pre-Certification for Medicaid, Medicaid HMO, Medicare, other third-party payors, and electronic claims submission. The Dental Pre-Authorization & Coding Specialist ensures accurate and timely processing of all patients Pre-Authorization insurance submission, follow up and correspondence for RHUDA-New Brunswick.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Performs pre-billing preparations required for electronic and manual pre-authorization claim submissions for Faculty Practice New Brunswick.
  • Prepares and submits insurance company forms with appropriate codes and fees to ensure optimal billing submissions and collections.
  • Reviews explanation of benefits and determines when problems with treatment that have been authorized/denied exist. Contacts preparers of source documents to resolve questions, inconsistencies, or missing data.
  • Provides follow up on all incorrect and/or incomplete pre-authorization. Contacts insurance companies to resolve issues.
  • Reviews pre-bill edit/error reports and makes necessary corrections; submits claims.
  • Prepares and submits Medicaid/Medicaid HMO and other third-party payor preauthorization. Enters notes into axiUm on status of pre-authorization.
  • Monitors rejections from Emdeon, makes corrections and resubmits claims as necessary.
  • Provides statistical information to the Billing Manager on the number of denials and rejections reviewed and corrected.
  • Submits appeals to insurance to overturn denied pre-authorizations.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Three (3) years of prior general office/ billing experience (particularly in dental office setting), one (1) year of which shall have been included billing, dental and medical insurance activities, and CDT coding required.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience in accessing and retrieving information from a computer database is required.
  • Proficient in dental software systems is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AxiUm Dental Management Software preferred.

  • No special vision requirements.
  • Must be able to lift or exert force up to ten (10) pounds.
