Dental Assistant Expanded Function-Dental Clinic

Overview:

An Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) provides efficient assistance for the dentist, to perform the specific advanced remediable intra-oral dental tasks and/or procedures in coronal polishing and/or the placement of restorative materials under the direct supervision of an Ohio licensed dentist. Demonstrates competence defined (*) in Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary responsibilities in providing age-appropriate care and service to patients from the age of birth to 21 years, and selected adults.

Responsibilities:

• *Completes dental restorations for patients after dentist has prepared the tooth for restorative materials in permanent and primary teeth.
• *Performs Coronal Polishing
• *Assesses and reviews patient's dental charts prior to clinic to attune to the history and anticipated needs of the scheduled patient.
• *Explains routines and procedures to decrease or allay the patient's apprehensions.
• *Assists in physical preparation of patient, providing maximum comfort.
• *Takes, processes and mounts dental radiographs.
• Maintains maximum aseptic techniques throughout each dental procedure according to Children's Hospital, JCAHO and OSHA standards
• Follows principle duties and responsibilities for Dental Assistant Job Class Code 3340 when not performing Expanded Function Duties.
• Applies Expanded Function role with dental attendings and experienced evening/Saturday dental clinic licensed dentists.
• Assists attendings in teaching residents the use of an EFDA.
• Demonstrates appropriate behavior management with patients.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

• High School graduate.
• Graduate of an accredited Dental Assistant training program or the equivalent in applicable experience
• Current license to practice dental radiography in State of Ohio.
• Board Certified in Coronal Polishing and/or Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary in State of Ohio
• Good communication skills
• Demonstrates ability to treat and teach healthy and medically compromised patients.
• Possesses good manual dexterity.
