Job Description
Scope: The Dementia Care Director is responsible for coordination of all programming aspects of the Dementia Care Program at the community. This care includes assisting the residents and their families in maintaining their physical and emotional health.
Organizational Structure: Reports directly to the Executive Director
Position Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Responsibilities
Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs the Dementia Care program. This includes developing and running activities and adhering to state policies governing Dementia Care.
Builds the programming calendar on a monthly basis and submits the calendar to the Regional Team for review and approval.
Builds Life Stations and assists with interior design, look and feel of Dementia Care program.
Assists with interviewing, hiring, orientating, evaluating, coordinating, motivation, monitoring performance, and supervising department staff by communicating with Wellness Director.
Communicates regularly with the Regional and Corporate Teams.
Conducts staff evaluations, merit pay increases, reprimands, disciplinary actions, and terminations as required.
Oversees continuing education programs for caregivers serving residents with dementia.
Participates with Wellness Director with the completion of resident assessments for the program; participates in pre-admission and periodic assessments and monitors changes in status.
Meets with new residents and their families during move-in and follows up regularly for at least the next month.
Conducts, interviews and observes the residents on a continual basis to alert the executive director, family, and others of changes in the physical or emotional health of the residents.
Acts as the manager and resource person for the residents and their families.
Participates in property surveys and regulatory inspections.
Maintains a safe and secure environment for all staff, residents, and guests, following established safety standards.
Maintains inventory of needed supplies for the program.
Assists in the budget preparation for the department and monitors department costs on a day-to-day basis.
Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge in dementia-specific care.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Earned degree in mental health or social services
Minimum 3 years of experience in senior living setting
Available to work a flexible schedule
Knowledge of Dementia Care required
Ability to work under pressure and relate well to residents
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication and a level of understanding. Demonstrates good judgment, problem solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills.

Frequent walking and standing
Must be able to perform work both inside and outside, which requires stooping, bending and lifting of approximately 50 pounds
