Position Overview
The Delivery Sorter is responsible for sorting library materials on the dock daily. The position requires standing for 6-8 hours per shift and performing manual labor by processing materials on the dock and in the mailroom.
Essential Functions
  • Sorts library materials and related items on the dock
    • Ability to quickly identify and separate books by correct branch label
    • Ensures books are properly stored in correct totes for delivery
    • Additional duties as assigned
  • Loads and unloads delivery truck
    • Exhibits safety skills when handling a two-wheel dolly
    • Safely loads/unloads book totes for various MCPL branches
    • Ensure totes are loaded properly for safe transport
  • Receives deliveries from vendors
    • Receives deliveries from UPS, FedEx, and other vendors
    • Receives freight from semi-trailers
Non-essential Functions
  • Uses pallet and motorized pallet jack
    • Exhibits safety skills when handling a pallet and motorized pallet jack
    • Exhibits the ability to properly and safely stack pallets
  • Receives and delivers mail within the building as needed
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma/HiSet/GED Completion –Required
  • Warehouse/Production Environment Experience Preferred

Age Requirement:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
MVR Requirement
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive MCPL vehicle according to company policy
Work Environment
  • (Indoor) Works primarily indoors with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer, and must have a reasonable tolerance for dust, mold, scents, allergens, and communicable diseases, which enables the employee to handle library materials, work in older buildings and interact with coworkers and the public
  • Use of special equipment, safety equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE), high noise level, shared office space
