Delivery Driver Cdl - Class A Or B

This position is a key member of our team whose efforts support the warehouse and transportation departments. This position is responsible for consistently and cost-effectively meeting the Garden Spot Foods standards regarding receiving, checking, and packing of multiple vendors and product lines, as well as customer service and distribution in transportation relief. The Driver is responsible for communicating with the Operations and Transportation managers to insure workload is correctly prioritized and completed. Willingness and flexibility to perform the listed duties are keys to successfully completing tasks on a week-to-week basis.

The incumbent must possess excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as solid computer skills.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that enhances relationships with customers, co-workers, and managers.

• Demonstrate and support Garden Spot Foods vision, goals, and strategies.
• Provide outstanding customer service during delivery and pickup operations.
• Keep accurate and legal FMCSA log books and inspection reports. Become knowledgeable about the use of the XRS on-board recording system (through Android Tablet technology) and maintain communication with that system to keep log books and inspection reports.
• Properly load and secure pallets of product for delivery to insure the safe, undamaged arrival of customers’ orders.
• Deliver or pick up all products to/from customer, ensuring carton count is correct, paperwork is completed, and remittance is accurate. When requested, pick up and load back haul inventory from vendors.
• Comply with all transportation and company safety requirements.
• Maintain in excellent condition and ensure the safety of all property assigned to the Delivery Driver.
• Keep inside of both the vehicle cab and box clean and organized. On a weekly basis (either before or after the weekly delivery route), wash the outside of the delivery truck. Maintain responsibility for 2- wheel cart(s), straps, blankets and any other Garden Spot property that accompanies the load.
• Verify correct temperature settings on reefer unit.
• Keep vehicle fueled and maintained at all times, report any mechanical issues to the General Manager immediately. A key set consisting of truck key and padlock key(s) should be in the truck at all times. The original key “set” should remain with the driver.
• As needed to load and unload truck, use power pallet jacks.
• Responsible to report all motor vehicle, safety, or personal vehicle violations immediately to supervisor (on or off duty).
• Dress in a business-like manner in company provided uniforms while on duty and maintain a well-groomed professional appearance.
• Other duties may be assigned as business needs require

Qualifications:

The Delivery Driver will develop, strengthen and effectively use his/her understanding of delivery and customer service procedures for Garden Spot Foods. The successful Driver will possess communication and customer service skills. Organizational skills and attention to detail are critical. The Driver must have knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) logs and inspection reports and be able to accurately complete same. Previous experience in transportation, delivery and a current class A or B with air brake certification license is required. The incumbent will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and physical.

Essential Job Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

• Be certifiable in use of power pallet jacks.
• Able to lift 75 lbs.
• Requires stooping, bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Requires lifting, crouching and reaching.
• Also requires pushing, pulling and exerting force with upper extremities.
• Fine motor movements of hands to pick, pinch and grasp cartons of products being delivered as well as individual items, also to write information on orders/forms and other company-required paperwork, requires use of wrists, hands and fingers.
• Requires a combination of sitting, climbing, standing and walking every day.
• Identifies cartons that make up a customer order by reading labels and moves to lift cartons, load on push cart and unload at customer location.
• Able to read and write the English language and do standard mathematical computations.
• Aptitude to use a company-provided cell phone and tablets. Required to keep in assigned truck or on driver’s person to maintain communication with company personnel.
• Must be able and available to travel overnight(s) on a weekly basis.
• Completion of a full and accurate application for employment.
• Able to work in adverse weather conditions; both heat and cold.

Education and Experience:

• For CDL driving position: possess Pennsylvania issued CDL Class A or B Driver’s License with air brake certification.
• Document employment history for the past 10 years.
• An excellent driving record with no preventable accidents within 1 year and no D.U.I. or suspension over 30 days within the past 3 years.
• Pre-employment medical examination: A successful FMSCA - approved drug screen and pre-employment physical examination.
• Successful completion of all written tests and a comprehensive road test.
• Be well-versed in all rules and regulations governing the operation of commercial vehicles upon the highways.
