Job description

Position: DEFENSIVE ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACH/LINEBACKER

Department: Athletic Director

Classification : Salary Exempt

Lane College, NCAA Division II, located in Jackson, Tennessee invite applicants for the position of Defensive Assistant Football Coach/Linebacker. This is a full-time position reporting to the Head Football Coach and Director of Athletics. Lane College is a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts all aspects of the program within the rules, regulations, and procedures encompassed in the NCAA, the athletic conference, College, and athletic department policies and procedures manual, with an understanding that failure to do so may lead to sanctions up to and including termination.
  • Utilization and understanding of the NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletic programs.
  • Works closely with the Defensive Coordinator and also with the Head Football Coach in recruiting student athletes, and submit their academic records for admission.
  • Develops the offensive and defensive game strategies for students.
  • Demonstrates game techniques and recommends player position assignments.
  • Cooperates in the pre and post workouts.
  • Assists in the designation and recruitment of scholarship athletes.
  • Plans and schedules coaching sessions according to established standards.
  • Understands each players strengths and weakness and accordingly trains players individually or in groups.
  • Maintains skill development programs for designated players such as offenses, defenses, receivers, linebackers and quarterbacks.
  • Supervises the purchase of equipment, uniforms, and supplies based on assigned budget.
  • Coordinates with Business Office in recruiting and team traveling activities.
  • Coordinates maintenance and repair works for athletic equipment.
  • Promotes athletic programs through community events, fundraising, public speaking and marketing.
  • Supervises academic progress of each player and implement necessary action plans.
  • Maintains discipline and conduct standards for players.
  • Recruiting and retaining student-athletes.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):

  • Bachelor's Degree is required (Master's Degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years coaching experience required, preferably on the NCAA collegiate level.
  • Must have the ability to walk, stand, or sit for long periods of time and be able to lift a minimum of 20lbs.
  • Overnight travel at a minimum of 50% of the time.

You will be expected to abide by the NCAAs Article 2: Principles for Conduct of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Athletics Department Code of Conduct. Adherence to all guidelines, policies and procedures contained in the NCAA Division II Manual, Athletic Conference Policies and Procedures Manuals, and Lane College Athletic Department Policies and Procedures/Compliance Manuals in the performance of the responsibilities outlined in your positions job description will be expected and enforced.

Creating an atmosphere of compliance, accurately completing required Lane College and NCAA forms and reports, and reporting any suspected violation of NCAA rules and regulations are expected and required.

All athletics staff and coaches are expected to act professionally to foster an atmosphere conducive to student athlete well-being, a safe and welcoming environment, high academic achievement, and a highly competitive athletic experience for our student athletes.

Failure to meet these expectations may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
