The role you'll contribute:
The Dean of Nursing is responsible for visionary leading throughout certificate, bachelor, master, and
doctoral nursing programs, in addition to working collaboratively with academic administration and other
academic departments for high quality program development and implementation. The Dean of Nursing
will be a person of high integrity, a courageous and transformative leader, a change agent, builder, and risk
taker. As a visionary leader, the Dean of Nursing will build on the current success of the University and
its faculty and develop the department as a national leader in teaching, research, practice, and service. The
Dean of Nursing will also work with other internal and external partners, including AdventHealth Chief
Nursing Executives to align key organizational nursing needs, provide intellectual leadership, strategic
direction, scholarship advancement, and change management for the dynamic future of Nursing education.

The Dean of Nursing will:
Articulate a compelling vision and corresponding strategic plan that will guide the nursing department to become a
national leader in education, research, and practice, and be committed to interdisciplinary academic and clinical
excellence.
Evaluate the nursing department's current organizational structure, resources, and management, making appropriate
changes necessary to support its continued growth. The Dean of Nursing will engage faculty in the process of continuous
improvement of the curriculum and the identification of changes, enhancements and additions that address both current
and anticipated demand.
Establish a strong partnership with senior leadership of the program's clinical partners, including AdventHealth,
demonstrating entrepreneurship and innovation regarding how the nursing department can help to address the system's,
region's, as well as the state's, health care needs. This will include establishing strong partnerships with the chief nursing
officers and other senior leadership within the clinical partners and proactively identifying opportunities to expand the
nursing department's programs that will address the region's workforce demands. The Dean of Nursing will be a member
of various AdventHealth nursing councils related to workforce, strategy, and vision planning.
Establish prominence to the nursing programs by actively participating in local, regional, state and national health care
and academic organizations (e.g., local hospitals, health departments, CCNE, AACN and other accrediting bodies,
professional nursing organizations at the state, national and international levels). The Dean of Nursing will participate in
influencing health policy for the state and region in alignment with AHU goals.
Collaborate with academic partners, board members, simulation operations team members, clinical partners, and other
system functions to ensure an integrated approach to high quality nursing education.
Create an environment that supports faculty in their research and scholarly efforts to foster scholarship and innovative
research and build upon AHU's visibility as a research institution; work collaboratively with AdventHealth nursing
leadership to establish a collaborative research agenda.
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Doctoral degree in Nursing or related field
A non-nursing doctoral degree needs at minimum to have a graduate degree in nursing
EDUCATION PREFERRED:
PhD in Nursing
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Evidence of successful leadership in academia and practice; as well as success in an educator role
Minimum five years in clinical practice or higher education
Experience in organizations where continuous improvement has been part of the organization's fabric
Experience with institutional and programmatic accreditation standards and regulatory requirements
Experience in pedagogical practices that facilitate student engagement and success in learning, such as online
learning and curriculum design
Proven track record of success in leading an organization to consistent financial and operations success
Experience in human resources management at the departmental level
Strong clinical practice background
EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
Leading a team of health care providers and/or faculty
Strategic planning for academic program or operations
Experience in change management
Experience as a leader in academics or practice
Experience in emerging educational technology
Experience obtaining grants/funding
