Dean Of Academics

Primary Functions: The Dean of Student Achievement will work with the Principal to ensure that all students demonstrate dramatic academic and personal growth by building and maintaining academic systems that cultivate a safe, joyous and achievement-oriented school culture. Deans promote the cognitive and non-cognitive growth and skill development of every student with the expectation that all students meet college and career readiness to graduate from Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. In order to best support our students and families, this Dean position requires a candidate who is fluent in English and Spanish; additional language skills, particularly in Somali or Vietnamese, are welcome.

This is an onsite role in Minneapolis, MN; there is no hybrid or remote work accommodation for this position.

School Description: Cristo Rey Jesuit High School provides access to a Catholic, Jesuit, college and career preparatory education to unlock the potential of students of any culture, faith, or creed to transform our communities. We have an award-winning, state-of-the-art educational and recreational facility in the Phillips neighborhood of South Minneapolis where we educate approximately 450 students and provide post-secondary support services to Cristo Rey graduates.

Through Cristo Rey’s unique model of academic success, our student community experiences high quality college and career preparatory curriculum focused on the development of habits for the mind and spirit. Our innovative Corporate Work Study Program offers the opportunity for each of our students to experience meaningful work at least 1 day a week at one of our 130+ corporate partners throughout the Twin Cities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Academic Achievement

• Collaborate with teachers, staff, tutors, and parents to determine students’ needs and appropriate actions to support academic success
• Lead the execution and monitoring of positive, assets-based interventions that accelerate student achievement
• Coach students for best practices in academic habits and executive function skills, especially as they relate to academic achievement expectations
• Write learning plans and academic contracts to support students’ pathway to academic success
• Communicate frequently with teachers, parents, counselors, and other staff on students’ progress and relevant information to support academic success
• Collect and analyze student data and feedback from teachers, administrators, counselors, and staff

Qualifications and Requirements:

Successful applicants will embody the mission-commitment, intellectual curiosity, openness to growth, optimism, and professionalism that are central to the character of our staff. In addition, they will meet or exceed the following requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree with a major, minor, or comparable credential of content expertise in the primary teaching discipline
• Bilingual and fluent English/Spanish speaker and writer
• Minimum of 3 years successful high school or middle school teaching experience
• Knowledge of best practices in secondary education and Competency in designing and implementing curricula to serve a heterogeneous student population diverse in culture, religion, and ability
• Ability to connect with culturally and linguistically diverse students and their families to build strong relationships and a loving, joyful school culture.
• Proficiency in teaching appropriate course(s) reflective of areas of expertise and teaching experience and in using technology to advance teaching and learning
• Proficient in data management and analysis. Familiarity or willingness to learn PowerSchool, Excel, Google sheets, and other technology tools.
• Commitment to the mission of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. Demonstrate inclusive, anti-racist practices and willingness to engage in personal and professional growth.
• Complete Virtus training, sign a Code of Conduct, and pass a background check

Preferred:

• Multilingual skills, particularly in Somali or Vietnamese
• Master's degree in Education, Administration or a related field
• Licensed in state of Minnesota or other state to teach
• Experience with teaching students in need of differentiation
• Experience with a standards-based approach to grading and reporting
