POSITION #408-CLS-10-23:
Deaf Ed Interpreter
Newbery Elementary
6.0 hours per day/191 days per year
Salary: $28.65 - $30.95 per hour
DESCRIPTION: Work with students to provide interpreter support for general education classes at the elementary level. Assist in relaying instruction from teacher to student, from student to teacher and peers. Assist in meeting the needs of deaf students. Perform related duties as required by the Special Education Department. Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: AA or equivalent or passed Praxis. Must be a skillEd Interpreter of the deaf. School experience preferred. Ability to relate well to students and staff. Trained/certified deaf interpreter. Knowledge or American Sign Language (ASL) method of interpreting. Knowledge of cultural needs of deaf students, environmental factors (lighting, seating, visibility, etc.). Understanding of language delays in deaf students. Interpreter Training Program graduate preferred. Good academic and communication skills; take directions well from others. Work well as part of a team and be able to follow both oral and written directions. Excellent attendance and punctuality are important functions of this position.
SCHEDULE: OPEN UNTIL FILLED.

180 - 219 Day Employees - Paid leave benefits include 10 days of sick leave, 2 personal leave days and 11 holidays.
220 - 259 Day Employees - Paid leave benefits include 10 days of sick leave, 3 personal leave days and 11 holidays.
260 Day Employees - Paid leave benefits include 12 days of sick leave, 2 personal leave days, 14 holidays and 12 vacation days.
Tuition reimbursement, 50% up to $450 per year for qualified expenses.

Immigration Reform and Control Act Requirement: The recommended applicant, if not a current regular employee, will be required to complete an INS I-9 form and must provide proof of employment eligibility prior to working.
Disclosure Statement and Record Check: Pursuant to Chapter 486, Washington Laws of 1987, the recommended applicant, if not a current regular employee, will be required to complete a disclosure form indicating whether he or she has been convicted of crimes against persons listed in the law. In addition, a background check, based on fingerprints, will be requested from the Washington State Patrol & FBI. Employment is conditional based upon completion of the record check.
