We are seeking a DC Power Technician (DC Power Installers Level 1,2 or 3) to perform the job duties of an Installer in a communications and industrial environment. This DC Power Technician position requires travel on a regular basis, mostly during the week and home on most weekends.

Description:

The Service Technician (Level 1-3) must be able to perform job duties of an installer in a communications and industrial environment. Have a broad understanding of batteries and the DC Power industry as it relates to (Telecom, UPS, and Utility). Job training by Level 4 technicians will be full-time as Level 4 DC Power installers are leading each team.

This position requires frequent travel on a regular basis, including overnight trips, mostly during the week.

Job Profile:

SHIFT TIMES: (varies depending on travel and customer requirements, night work required, overtime required, weekends occasionally required)

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Travels to different locations/companies and contends with various working conditions including remote locations, primitive locations, and outdoors.

Job Requirements:

Work will include installation of batteries and rectifier battery plants (all voltages); ironwork/superstructure, and cable rack; DC power plant upgrades and replacements; Primary and Secondary distribution equipment including PBD's, BDFB's, BDCBB's, inverters, and converters; along with the running of power cable, lug crimping, and lacing; taking voltage and gravity readings; perform load tests; diagnosing equipment and systems; preparing test reports; authoring MOPs or other task documentation; completing job related documentation; reading, understanding, and following standards, specifications, and schematics; interfacing with customers; and all other duties associated with the installation, maintenance, repair, and removal of DC power.

AC power work from 120V 1-phase to 480V 3-phase.

Level 1-3 responsibilities will include understanding and following industry standards, safety protocols, and all Company policies; inspecting tools, equipment, and each job site, including recognizing hazards; all while working under a Level 4 DC Lead Installer.

Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Skill Requirements:

Level 1 is an entry level position with constant on the job training.

Leve 2 and 3 applicants must be familiar with a variety of the electrical field's concepts, practices, best practice, and procedures including the technical ability to understand and interpret Electrical Codes, Life Safety Codes, NFPA, Uniform Building Codes, and Lighting Systems where applicable.

Level 3 DC technicians would be preferred to have knowledge of industry standards (i.e., Telcordia, IP72202, TP76300, 77350), an understanding of how a lead acid battery works, ability to read and interpret drawings and technical manuals. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand spoken English. Good writing skills, general math skills, strong mechanical and communication skills, PC skills including use of Office applications and customer software.

All candidate must maintain an acceptable driving record required, pass annual drug tests (Random testing required for certain customers), and maintain an acceptable background check in accordance with company and customer requirements and local laws/regulations.

Essential Responsibilities:

Maintain open and positive communication (both in verbal and written form) with employees, departments, and customers.

Work well in a team environment as well as independently and be a self-starter.

Willing to travel between offices, service locations, and customer sites.

Minimum Physical and Sensory Requirements:

  • Strength to lift a 50 lb object, without assistance, and items weighing up to 150 lb with assistance. Strength to slide up to 200 lb
  • Strength and dexterity to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, crouch, or twist to reach/and or work with assigned systems.
  • Strength, mobility and dexterity to use small hand and power tools as necessary and to climb or crawl to install equipment in areas of close tolerance.
  • Ability to climb and work on ladders, gantries, and cat walks.
