What is this job?

The Spanish Speaking Youth Care Professional provides direct day-to-day supervision of residents ages 9 to 19. You would be part of a larger team working together to organize and run programming activities, ensuring the daily schedule of each child meets their goals, assisting with transports to school and offsite appointments (using our vehicles), and modeling life skill-building activities such as preparing meals.

What is the Caminos Program?

You would be helping children who have recently migrated to the United States and are seeking opportunities for reunification with family as well as the chance to pursue their education and legal immigration cases. BCC calls this our Caminos program, and we see it as a fulfillment of our purpose as a non-profit: to enrich communities, one family at a time.

What does the benefits package look like?
  • Spanish-English speaking candidates start at a base compensation of $18.81 and goes up commensurate with experience. Candidates with a bachelor's degree may start at the higher $21.31/hr base. Our bilingual recruiters can help provide a more accurate compensation estimate during the phone interview.

What does this job do specifically?

When the kids are awake you would:

  • Document daily activities and happenings in the living unit within BCC’s electronic health record system
  • Accurately administer medication according to physician and/or nurse’s orders. Document the medication administration record (MAR).
  • Help implement each child’s treatment plan (every child at BCC has one – it’s a list of goals they’re working on while they’re at BCC).
  • Coach kids on cleanliness and orderliness in their personal hygiene, living unit and the surrounding campus.
  • Link the kids to the medical team if they need anything.
  • Support the kids getting ready for school (off grounds).
  • Provides safe transportation (in BCC vehicles) to scheduled appointments.
  • Conduct inventories for resident belongings upon admission, discharge, and on a quarterly basis. They are all growing teens - you'll help them purchase new clothing once per quarter.
  • Engage the kids in whatever is on the living unit’s schedule. Play games, facilitate getting calls or video visits set up with their families or other stakeholders, etc.
  • Ensure the kids are dressed in weather and activity-appropriate clothing. Generally, during your shift, you'll always spend a little time outside (weather permitting), like throwing a football around or taking a therapeutic walk around campus.
  • Prepare and enjoy meals together as a living unit. Sometimes you’ll pick up meals already prepared from the dining hall (on grounds), other times the living unit will cook together.


Caminos Only – WV Daytime YCP

· Accompany youth on medical appointments and communicate provider’s questions/concerns to ensure accuracy and patient safety.

· Obtain and maintain certification to support medical translation needs of the youth in the program.


Eligibility

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum High School diploma.
  • Minimum of one-year of child welfare experience working with children and/or adolescents.
  • Conversational and written Spanish fluency. English as a second language applicants welcome. Our bi-lingual recruiters can help you determine if you know enough Spanish or English to meet the fluency requirements.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Degree from an accredited College or University.


Hours of Operation for this Position:

Daytime:

FE- Sun (9a-5pm) and Mon -Thur (7am - 3pm)

BE- Tue-Fri (7am-3p) and Sat (9am - 5pm)


Other Job Requirements

  • This position requires you to drive BCC vehicles. Must have a valid, active, driver's license with less than 7 points.
  • Background check and drug screen required
