The opportunity
The primary function of this job is to efficiently and effectively stage, open, and clean bales of cotton and create laydowns per instructions. You may also be required to unload the cotton trucks.
The role
- Each Fork Lift or Squeeze Lift operator must complete a daily inspection sheet at the beginning of each shift.
- Each lift must be blown off weekly
- Every lift must be plugged into a charging station when not in use or the operator is at break.
- Must be a Gildan certified licensed lift truck operator to bring in bales of cotton for each laydown and/or to drive a fork lift and/or squeeze lift
- Properly place bales in a way to eliminate gaps
- Open and clean bales of cotton
- Bales should be clean of dirt, grease, wood, bagging, or any other foreign matter that might damage opening equipment
- Cut wrap with a vertical cut making two horizontal cuts; one at the top and one at the bottom of each bale. Continue to watch for contamination
- Place all bale wire ties in the designated metal dumpster. Any burlap, plastic, and/or polypropylene should be taken to proper areas for baling and/or disposal immediately after opening laydown
- Sweep laydown area before and after laydown is completed
- Place each bale laydown according to laydown sheets

- Exceptional attendance and work ethic
- Standing and walking at a steady pace for 12 hour shifts minus assigned breaks
- Good hand & eye coordination and hand dexterity
- Reaching, including reaching overhead to heights of 6 ft from the floor.
- Bending
- Ability to push/pull up to ( 200 ) lbs
- Ability to work in cotton dust environment with temperatures of 85° - 87° degrees Fahrenheit
