Oasis Day Camp Downtown is looking to hire fun, dynamic individuals for the summer of 2023! Camp runs from July 3rd until August 25th.
Seeking applicants who love kids and want the experience of working at camp and gaining skills. You get skills transferable to any industry in your future career path, including management, tenacity, perseverance, team work, patience, working under pressure, time management and more.
Position Summary
Lifeguard/Swim Instructor
Swim Instructors are mentors and role models for Oasis campers. They bring the fun and energy to camp each and every day, while also taking the time to ensure the safety of all campers: managing their behavior, building relationships with them, and making sure that they are engaged in the pool. Swim Instructors work as part of a team, facilitating engaging swimming lessons with children over the course of the summer.
Qualifications
Required
- Must be 17+ years of age (staff under 18 must provide working papers)
- Must possess a Lifeguarding/First-Aid/CPR/AED Certification
- Must be able to commit to work Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm for the duration of camp
- Demonstrated interest in working with children
- Must get to work in a timely manner each day
Desired
- Experience in a summer camp or after school setting/working with children in groups
General Responsibilities
Activity Management- 75%
Swim Instructors work hands on to facilitate engaging swimming lessons for children over the course of the summer, providing them with the tools and structure they need to be successful in a Day Camp environment. Being a Swim Instructors means you will be serving as a leader and role model for campers throughout the day, and creating a fun and inclusive environment for children of all types and abilities. Swim Instructors are provided a curriculum and are expected to facilitate swimming lessons for campers with the support of group counselors.
Communication with Counselors and Leadership Staff- 20%
Swim Instructors work together to ensure the success of the campers throughout the summer, and this requires working together with other staff and your direct and indirect supervisors. It is essential that Swim Instructors communicate any issues that arise during the course of the day to supervisors.
Participate in Training- 5%
Prior to the start of the summer, all staff must participate in a four-day training program, as well as periodic in-camp training throughout the summer.
Compensation:
Our compensation structure for seasonal summer staff is based on providing a stipend. A stipend is a fixed amount of money that we provide as compensation for the number of days you work during the camp season. It differs from an hourly wage or salary, as it is a predetermined sum.
Stipends for Swim Instructors range from $3600-$4000 total depending on prior experience. The total is divided into four bi-weekly paychecks (ex: a $3600 total stipend equals four $900 bi-weekly paychecks before taxes).
