Datacenter Engineer
Location: Onsite in Columbus, OH
Duration: 12+ Months
Qualification
· Seeking LOCAL Candidates with 3-5+ years’ experience installing and maintaining data center equipment within large scale environments
· Strong cable management and rack and stack skills, decommissioning, stuff off and prep to ship, light provisioning.
· Excellent listening and communication skills
· Troubleshooting Experience on servers, networking devices and IT equipment.
· Inventory management experience. Ordering, receiving and shipping server parts.
· Ability to prioritize work based on business needs and urgency.
· Ability to communicate and write effectively in both verbal and written communication mediums.
· Experience taking on-call shifts and ability to respond to critical events as needed.
· Experience escalating issues to Sr. onsite staff and management as needed.
· Linux administration knowledge/Ability to run Linux commands
· Data center networking knowledge.
· Experience in Data Center Infrastructure projects.
· Self-motivated, with high energy and an ability to adjust priorities and work effectively with a team
· Scripting (ex. Python/Bash/PHP) to automate repetitive tasks
· VMware ESX
Duties and Responsibilities
· Run automation scripts per predefined process and procedures.
· Install support hardware for all devices in cabinets within a secure, raised-floor environment
· Provide installation and termination of servers and IT equipment
· Rack installation including putting racks in place, cabling, power up and handoff of servers to internal provisioning teams.
· Troubleshooting and repair of data center hardware and networking infrastructure.
· Hardware installation & decommission of enterprise servers and cabling infrastructure.
· Provision access to the Data Center, User IDs for the Data Center environment
· Rack and stack of data center equipment, including but not limited to servers, networking devices, monitoring systems and other equipment.
· Maintained a Data Center equipment and systems including server, storage, routers and switches to ensure proper performance
· Respond IT Ticket requests, in a ticketing environment that is used and monitored by multiple internal service owners and teams.
· Inventory process, order replacement parts and return failed parts as required.
· Maintain asset inventory and update internal application as needed.
· Document problem resolution summaries using an online ticketing system
· Act with in Service Level Agreements (SLA) on the tickets assigned to you in your space.
· System power supplies and cabling install, troubleshooting and repair
· Structured cabling, labelling and troubleshooting of fiber/copper/telecom cables.
· Perform testing and labeling of cables and patch systems
· Decommission life cycle of data center hardware
· Execute small projects on your own and work with your manager in planning and executing larger local projects.
· Support 3rd party vendor activities
· Receive/ship data center equipment as needed.
· Be accessible via cell phone and willing to work on onsite emergency as needed.
· Participate and complete training that aligns with corporate objectives to bridge skill gaps and learn new relevant technologies.
· Documentation of activities and create/modify SOPs
