Job description

Capitol Bridge Puerto Rico is seeking a highly motivated Data Scientist Intern (PhD Student Intern) to support the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Single Family Insurance Operations Division (SFIOD) in managing its Call Center and Mortgage Insurance Premium (MIP) Refund Assistance operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing the nuances, trends, and predictive drivers associated with the UFMIP Refund aggregate list. Candidate will assist the organization in establishing best practices on statistical data analysis and visualization. 
This position will be part-time (approximately 20 hours per week).  This is a hybrid with a 40% expectation to report on-site at 669 Avenida Industrial, Isabela, PR 00662.   

This availability of this position is contingent upon contract award.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Collect and organize data related to UFMIP refunds issued by the FHA 
  • Analyze data using statistical software and methods to identify trends and patterns.  
  • Participate in meetings and presentations related to the UFMIP refund program. 
  • Develop and present linear regression analysis to build a model that predicts the likelihood of receiving a refund for each loan or borrower in the dataset.  
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders to ensure accuracy and completeness of data. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, through all levels of the organization and through different business units. 
  • Assist with other data analysis and management tasks as needed. 
    You Will Bring:
  • To be considered, candidates will need to submit a cover letter, resume and academic transcript.
  • Must be a current PhD student in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or related field. (Evidence of enrollment will be required) 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Experience with statistical software 
  • Familiarity with data management and analysis best practices 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite. 
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment 
  • Ability to work non-standard business hours, including weekends and holidays, as determined by the business needs. Flexibility will be expected. 
  • Interest in the housing industry and public policy 
  • Self-motivated with high desire of self-development and learning. 
  • Experience working with large datasets (highly desired) 
  • Knowledge of mortgage lending and/or insurance industries (highly desired) 
  • Familiarity with FHA regulations and guidelines (highly desired) 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. (highly desired) 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. (highly desired)
