Job description

SMX is seeking a Data Scientist Analyst to support a new USINDOPACOM J5 office developing an AI/ML enabled plans capability (STORMBREAKER). As a Data scientist, you will be working on an accelerated development project in support of a high priority Department of Defense program. This position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, integration of existing capabilities, as well as development of new applications.
You would be a great candidate for this position if you have an operations focused mentality to provide the best and most intuitive analysis for customers. You understand the nuances and challenges with data aggregation, analysis and presentation. You have a passion for developing technology solutions for big data environments that illuminate critical capabilities and vulnerabilities in support of military operations.
The candidate for this position must have strong interpersonal skills to be able to communicate effectively. They must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, make decisions in the midst of ambiguity and meet deadlines. The successful candidate must be a self-starter that needs minimal supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create and write technical data design documents and participate in technical design discussions that transform operational requirements into data driven solutions
  • Use your firm understanding of data model training and prediction in order to develop data models and analytical dashboards
  • Formulate and complete end-to-end data models that include data gathering, analysis, modeling, and ongoing scaled deliverables and presentations
  • Structure/preprocess datasets to find usable information and to prepare for modeling
  • Review and collaborate on recommendations and designs with other subject matter experts
  • Develop solutions, actions items and issues, and remain accountable for their completion
  • Work in an agile environment to continuously deliver high outputs
  • Have a high attention to detail, working closely with plans, operations and technical stakeholders to drive measurable results
  • Produce high-quality, well-written technical documentation
  • Work effectively within a delivery-centric, multi-functional team
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to understand their operational need
  • Provide transparent and regular status updates in requested format
  • Work in a fast-paced Agile environment with fluid requirements and changing priorities

Required Skills & Experience
  • Hands-on experience with development and implementation of ML models
  • Basic math/statistics fluency
  • Experience with a general-purpose programming language (eg Python, C++)
  • Skilled in data manipulation/analysis
  • Excellent collaboration skills
  • Familiar with building secure software using modern security principles
  • Clearance Required: Must have a Top Secret clearance
  • BA/BS or MA/MS degree in quantitative field (eg, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics)
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with big data analysis
