THE ROLE: Xylem seeks to hire a Data Science Manager to work with our data engineering and Data Science team.  As a manager of the team, they will manage data scientists and full stack Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud developers.  The team is responsible for management of a large-scale internal data lake and Data Science projects spanning cloud data lakes, on premise systems and on the edge microprocessors. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to succeed in a fast-paced, fluid environment, while ensuring that high-quality projects are delivered within reasonable timelines. We offer a full benefits package to include Flexible Time Off (FTO) for salaried positions, health, dental, vision, investment savings plan, and additional miscellaneous benefits.   

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:  To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

  • Managing a worldwide team of data scientists and full stack AWS cloud developers (Note: Position only needs to adhere to EST time zone work hours.)
  • Inspiring and growing junior engineers to enrich their career growth.
  • Work with business units to understand requirements and create plans to address them.  Specifically possess the ability to translate requirements of non-technical stakeholders into actionable Data Science projects.
  • Develop and execute project plans and delivery commitments.
  • Contribute hands-on to the execution of project plans and architectural roadmaps.
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team with the help of a scrum master.
  • Management of departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, and enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team.
  • Operations of the service as a mission-critical system.
  • Work closely with the engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach.
  • Be a hands-on technical leader and contributor.
  • Provide architectural and infrastructure direction
  • Participation in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of experience managing software development teams
  • 3 years’ experience working with software engineering.
  • 5+ years Data Science experience
  • 1-3 years’ experience with AWS or other cloud-based deployment methodologies
  • Previously held a technical leadership role for complete large-scale projects.
  • Experience with Agile and mentoring and training the engineering community on complex technical issues.

 

DAY IN THE LIFE:

 

The working environment for this role is a standard office environment. Standard working hours are 40 hours per week. Limited travel is required for this role.
