APS Palo Verde is looking for Data Science Analytics Summer Internto join their team in Tonopah, AZ



The APS Data Science Analytics Summer Internwill have the opportunity to acquire broad experience in practicing and learning data analysis, process improvement, and Human Resource fundamentals in real work settings.


This internship offers a distinctive opportunity for students passionate about Data Science and analytics looking to immerse themselves in practical applications within the HR domain, focusing on operational efficiency and effectiveness enhancement through Lean Six Sigma methodologies. The selected intern will be instrumental in driving process improvements, supporting HR functions, and contributing to APS’s vision for a sustainable energy future in Arizona.


The Palo Verde Summer internship is a paid 10-week program starting in May, ending in July. During the 10 weeks at Palo Verde you will be equipped with the tools needed to thrive and be challenged with meaningful individual and group projects. You will get support from leaders who will help you succeed. Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in a New Hire Orientation, Professional Development opportunities and company tours to learn more about Palo Verde and Arizona Public Service.


Qualified students will receive housing during the program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Analysis and Process Improvement: Use statistical analysis and data modeling techniques to identify opportunities for HR process improvements. Leverage Lean Six Sigma methodologies to streamline operations, enhance employee satisfaction, and increase overall departmental efficiency.
  • Project Management: Lead and contribute to projects with a focus on data-driven analysis to support HR initiatives. Utilize project management skills to ensure timely and effective implementation of process improvements.
  • Collaborative Data Strategy: Work closely with HR professionals and cross-functional teams to understand data needs and apply analytics insights to solve complex HR challenges.
  • Data Visualization and Reporting: Create visualizations and reports using tools such as Power BI to communicate findings and recommendations to HR leadership and stakeholders across the organization.

Minimum Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited college or university undergraduate program in Data Science, Analytics, Statistics, STEM, or a related field, with a strong academic record.
  • Must show ongoing achievement in areas of study and training
  • 3.0 GPA or higher

Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with data visualization software like Power BI, Tableau, and any experience with data analysis tools and programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL) is preferred
  • Knowledge or interest in Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights
  • Enthusiasm for applying Data Science and analytics within HR functions to drive improvements and outcomes

Nuclear Requirement

Any PVGS employee may be called upon to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and will be expected to fulfill their obligation as an ERO member. Any PVGS employee may be called upon to support a refueling or short-notice outage. This includes line roles and responsibilities as necessary to execute outage activities. Major Accountabilities

1) Performs simple to intermediate analysis and designs. May assist in preparing business/engineering plans, designs, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations and studies.
2) Assists in research, business documentation, studies or technical reviews. Conducts analyses, investigations, verifications and summarizes results or findings in written reports or oral presentations.
3) Utilizes internal resources to learn business/engineering operations/functions and apply learning in completion of work assignments.
4) Coordinates efforts with other disciplines, and/or departments in achieving project goals and task assignments.
5) Performs other related duties as required.

Flex Role:
This position is not required to be performed at a specific APS facility as long as adequate technology and a solid ergonomic set up are present. Pending agreement with leadership, employees hired into this role will be able to choose where they prefer to perform their work. Employees will have two options to choose from:

  • APS office based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from an APS facility.
  • Home based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from his/her home.

  • Employees in Flex roles are required to reside in Arizona (or NM for Four Corners-based employees). Role types are subject to change based on business need.
