Job Description
The Operations Data Intern will work on Scout’s Technical Services team and gain exposure to wind turbine and solar operations and performance engineering. It provides an introduction to the renewable energy industry as well as the roles and responsibilities of a Data Engineer.
Day to day activities will include interfacing with our Operations Engineering team to analyze data and develop new analytics. The chosen applicant will gain industry critical knowledge on renewable asset operation and the reporting and data required. They will develop their knowledge of wind turbine and solar data and systems. This knowledge will be used to assess turbine and solar performance and create analytics and systems to better support our fleet. The Data Intern will also work closely with other Scout team members to learn about real time monitoring, forecast and generation tracking, and data integration when building a new renewable project.
We will work with the chosen intern to assess their skills and interests and determine an appropriate individual project for them to work on with the support of the technical team. Upon the completion of the internship, they will give a final presentation (virtual or in person) to upper management on the project.
Targeted Majors: Enrolled and pursuing a degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Engineering, Economics, or similar program.
Requirements
- Basic proficiency with Python
- Strong statistical and analytical skills
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Interest in renewable energy industry
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision
- Attention to detail and a desire to learn
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with energy systems, finance and/or energy markets
- Knowledge of or experience with RDBMS programs such as MS SQL Server and/or Postgres
- Experience with PowerBI, R, and MS Automation

Timeline and Location
Expect 40 hours a week for 12 weeks
Flexible start/end date, targeting May start date, August/September end date.
Boulder Colorado, ideal candidate would be comfortable working with a semi-remote team

Compensation
$25-30 an hour
