Data Engineer/Migration Specialist

JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer/Migration Specialist. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to support the seamless consolidation of data from multiple databases into a single, cloud based, analytic platform. The ideal candidate will have expertise in data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and security throughout the migration lifecycle. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to analyze data requirements, develop migration strategies, and execute migration plans effectively.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines and infrastructure.
- Analyze existing data structures, formats, and dependencies in legacy systems.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and data migration objectives.
- Develop data migration strategies, plans, and timelines based on project requirements.
- Design and implement data extraction, transformation, and loading processes to migrate data from legacy systems to target platforms.
- Ensure data integrity and accuracy during the migration process by implementing validation and reconciliation mechanisms.
- Optimize data migration processes for efficiency, performance, and scalability.
- Develop scripts, queries, and automation tools to facilitate data extraction, transformation, and loading tasks.
- Coordinate with IT teams and vendors to resolve technical issues and ensure smooth execution of migration activities.
- Document migration procedures, data mappings, and configurations for future reference.
- Provide training and support to end users on accessing and validating migrated data.
- Must be proficient in working with various databases such as SQL, NoSQL, and data warehouses.
- Experience with Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes to move data from multiple sources to a cloud platform.
- Familiarity with Domo, Boomi, and Planfull
- Proficiency in programming languages like Python, Java, or Scala for scription ETL processes and data manipulation.
- Data skills and analysis for the effective transfer of data to ensure its integrity.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues that arise during the data migration process and come up with effective solutions.
- Attention to detail in handling large volumes of data to ensure accuracy of transfer before, during, and after migration.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to be a team player, collaborate with various departments, additional vendors, and stakeholders maintaining moral and ethical confidentiality.
QUALFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Proven 5-7 years’ experience working as a Data Engineer/Migration Specialist or similar role.
- Strong proficiency in database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, Domo, and Planfull).
- Experience with data migration tools and technologies (e.g., Informatica, Talend, AWS Database Migration Service).
- Solid understanding of data modeling, normalization, and transformation techniques.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Certification in data management or data migration (e.g., Certified Data Management Professional, Informatica Certified Specialist).
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for data migration and data governance.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to data privacy and security (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
- Experience with Agile or other project management methodologies.
