Position Description:
- The Manufacturing Data Engineer role leads and implements Data Engineering projects, supports/maintains data pipelines, and provides data estate expertise and best practices across the company.
- Previous manufacturing experience in complex data environments is highly preferred.
- The primary focus for this role will be a green fields development of a modern data platform spanning source ERPs & CRMs, the Enterprise Data Hub (Lake & Warehouse), Data Governance & Master Data Management, and Reporting & Analytics certified datasets,
- This individual will work closely with both business and IT teams to design, build and support data warehouses and processes utilized by business reporting and analytics teams.
Technologies:
- Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, ADLS, Entra (Active Directory), Key Vault, Power BI, and other Azure resource types.
- Knowledge of Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement, Power Platform, Dataverse, Data Governance & MDM solutions, CDC services, PySpark notebooks, and Infor XA/SAP ERPs.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Assemble and analyze large, complex sets of data.
- Design and build sustainable and optimal database models.
- Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements increasing scalability, optimizing data delivery, and automating manual processes.
- Build required infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation and loading of data from various data sources using Microsoft Azure, Databricks, and SQL technologies.
- Build analytical tools to utilize the data pipeline, providing actionable insight into key business performance metrics including operational efficiency and customer acquisition.
- Work with stakeholders including data, design, product, and leadership teams and assist them with data-related technical issues.
- Assist with setting standards, ensuring proper documentation and environment controls.
- Mentor development team members in design and development of complex ETL And BI solutions.
- Contribute to testing, QA, and documentation of data pipelines and systems.
- Support exploratory data analysis, statistical analysis, predictive analytics, and machine learning models.
- Ensure systems meet industry standard practices and business, security, privacy, and data retention requirements.
- Participate in and lead Agile/Scrum meetings.
Job Specifications:
- Maintain in-depth understanding of relevant Data Engineering best practices.
- Ability to configure and manage any Azure component pertaining to ETL/ELT processes (ADF, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake, Databricks, Power BI).
- Coding and scripting experience to move and manipulate data using tools such as Spark or Pandas.
- Expert level knowledge of SQL, database administration and other data platforms and data related programming elements (e.g., Python).
- Knowledge of database design and architecting data models; ability to understand, discuss and document complex data models.
- Strong facilitation skills for gathering and understanding requirements from business groups.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships both internally and externally.
- Management and guidance for best practice data backup.
- Effective communication and people skills with the ability to use non-functional language when engaging with clients.
- Able to manage and complete multiple concurrent projects with tight deadlines.
- Display expertise with tools needed to debug and diagnose issues.
- Ability to design, implement, and deploy data solutions to business problems.
- Shows initiative for problem-solving and ownership.
- Deliver feedback in a constructive manner.
- Provide guidance to other engineers and workflow developers.
- Work well with technical leads, incorporating feedback as needed.
Required Education and Experience:
- 3-5 years or more experience working with data and data analytics development within the Azure cloud platform; experience with Synapse preferred.
- Experience with data analytics/engineering and cloud technologies and an in-depth working knowledge and understanding of Data Engineering, design, and integration.
- Manufacturing experience is highly preferred.
Position Type:
This is a regular, full-time position working a regular work week with infrequent extended hours only for high priority business needs.
Travel:
- Infrequent domestic travel for team/project meetings.
- Very infrequent global travel possible.
Supervisory/Responsibility:
- Individual contributor/lead with no direct reports.
Additional Job Description:
- Uses standard or ad hoc queries or reports to extract data from disparate databases or data sources.
- Analyzes data to produce dashboards, metrics, or insights and identify trends or anomalies.
- Consults with users or decision makers to identify data sources, required data elements, or data validation standards.
- Collaborates with development teams to design business intelligence solutions to facilitate data gathering, storage, and retrieval.
- May guide less experienced team members.
