Job Summary
The Data Engineer II at Air Methods is responsible for transforming our industry by delivering best-in-class data architecture solutions and driving more accurate data-driven decision making. To be successful, this teammate must have a passion for working with stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver value through the entire data pipeline. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data architecture, excellent SQL skills, and exposure to at least one cloud-based data platform.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following:
- Develop scalable data ingestion, ELT, and data warehousing solutions
- Implement complex data solutions with a focus on collecting, parsing, managing, analyzing, and visualizing large sets of data to turn data into business insights
- Build conceptual and logical data models for stakeholders and management
- Assist in establishing and maintaining standards and guidelines for the design, development, tuning, deployment, and maintenance of information and advanced data analytics
- Enhance the data infrastructure framework by evaluating new and existing technologies and techniques to create efficient processes around data extraction (including APIs), aggregation, and analytics
- Actively participate in knowledge sharing sessions, code, and design reviews
- Support the data platform infrastructure and implement solutions to ensure continuous improvement in platform stability

Qualifications

Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) from four-year college or university in Information Computer Science or related field, and five to eight years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 7+ years in Data Engineering or related field
- 3+ years working in a cloud computing environment, with Azure preferred
- 5+ years developing reporting assets using one or more data visualization / reporting tools to tell stories, Power BI preferred
- Extensive experience in building scalable data warehouses in a cloud data platform, with Snowflake preferred
- Experience gathering data from multiple heterogeneous data sources, including databases, various file formats, and REST and SOAP APIs
- Hands-on experience with Azure technologies, such as SQL and NoSQL databases, Azure DevOps, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Azure Analytics Services desired
- Has worked in an Agile Scrum environment

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrates high critical thinking and reasoning skills and strong attention to detail while working in a fast-paced environment that requires ability to prioritize and multi-task
Computer Skills
- Advanced experience with Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Experience with Python, Spark and PySpark desired
- Expert level SQL programming skills
- Strong data architecture, ETL and data ingestion development skills
- Experience with cloud warehouse ELT tools (e.g., Matillion, dbt)
