Job description

Meta is seeking a seasoned professional to join our Facilities Engineering Team as a Wireless Communications Engineer. The Wireless Communications Engineer support Distributed Antenna System (DAS) pre-deployment, deployment and post-deployment activities by performing site walks, RF surveys, benchmarking, data collection, integration,commissioning, acceptance testing, optimization, troubleshooting and repair of DAS sites and hardware systems. In addition, they also provide on-site technical support and act as a liaison between Meta, carriers, and internal partners such as Data Center Design, Infrastructure Construction Management, Data Center Facilities Operations Team,Procurement, and Logistics teams. The candidate will also provide status updates to their key stakeholders regarding delivery progress.

Data Center Facilities Engineering, Wireless Communications Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Subject Matter Expert in both Cellular and Public safety DAS design, commissioning, and optimization.
  • Lead engineering decisions to drive requirements, develop solutions, influence strategy, and process in all necessary business areas for complex cellular in-building solutions, complex 2-way radio and Public Safety DAS in-building solutions.
  • Drive major initiatives successfully towards the engineering of indoor & outdoor DAS solutions for Cellular, Land Mobile Radio and Public Safety systems.
  • Carryout roadmap planning identifying new areas to pursue to enhance wireless program
  • Assess designs and Produce design enhancements where necessary using industry standards and tools (i.e. iBwave, Planet , Reach , Atoll etc).
  • Provide expertise in communicating with AHJ and applicable zoning authority to guide towards compliance of FCC and Jurisdictional Wireless regulatory ordinances within standards including but not limited to OET 65 applicable to cellular technologies and NFPA1221 relating to public safety technologies.
  • Provide guidance on performing site survey, creating design documentation, DAS Integration supporting each process and phase to collect data, design, and optimize as needed.
  • Support and launch sites for Optimization, KPI Monitoring, and Report generation as well as Optimization close out packages. (DAS commissioning certificate or knowledge of troubleshooting, GUI handling etc. required - see below.)
  • Tune Meta infrastructure propagation models using empirical data or CW data leveraging wireless equipment knowledge and thorough understanding of in building RF propagation theory.
  • Lead and contribute to cross-functional projects, programs, and operational functions spanning a wide set of network technologies, to include IP, cellular networks, RF, IP networking, and physical cable plant.
  • Review and approve system designs and survey data to ensure coverage/building requirements are met.
  • Review and approve calculations of antenna gain, line loss & amplification as well as analyze various coverage data collected.
  • Direct or perform system testing utilizing scanners, spectrum analyzers, power meters, optical test equipment and other testing tools.
  • Review commissioning and test reports results to ensure they meet coverage requirements.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in the troubleshooting of system issues in adherence with proper escalation paths.
  • Write, illustrate, and edit technical documentation.
  • Engage with XFN subject matter experts to collect requirements and technical content and then translate data into a consumable, functional work product.
  • Serve as a technical resource to provide installation support to field personnel and contractors and participate in pre-construction walk through activities.
  • Maintain existing documentation for organization, content, technical accuracy, relevance and style.
  • Develop key process metrics, gather and analyze data to identify and organize process improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and lead effective communication strategies
  • run time-based syncs to maintain proactive stance/awareness about issues.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline
  • 10+ years of experience in RF design, Planning and optimization of LTE and 5G networks.
  • Advanced working understanding of RF propagation
  • Advanced working knowledge of RF test equipment (e.g. Spectrum Analyzer, JDSU, Anritsu, Solutellia, etc.)
  • Advanced experience to read and interpret RF design, technical and architectural drawings
  • Proficient in basic electronic and RF theory, and antenna types/uses
  • Proficient in installation, termination, and testing of fiber systems and low voltage cabling systems
  • Demonstrated experience to do hands-on research and obtain necessary technical content from subject matter experts while translating it into clear, concise documentation.
  • Proven teamwork skills and flexibility, attention to detail, and the experience to manage multiple projects and assignments.
  • Progressive RF engineering experience, which directly involves testing, commissioning, and optimizing DAS networks
  • DAS commissioning certificate or knowledge of troubleshooting, GUI handling etc.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 15+ years total work experience with Cellular and Public Safety networks
  • iBwave Level 2 certification or equivalent RF Planning software
  • Expert knowledge of 4G wireless technologies standards, 5G knowledge is preferred.
  • Experience with Macro and oDAS RF Planning tools including Planet, iBwave Reach and Atoll
  • DAS OEM certification desired (e.g. SOLiD, CommScope, ADRF, Zinwave, etc.)
  • DAS Test Equipment certification desired (e.g. Solutellia, JDSU, PIM, Anritsu etc.)
  • Cable Vendor certifications preferred (e.g. Andrew, RFS Cablewave, CommScope, Trilogy etc.)
  • Experience with retrofit projects in Data Centers or other mission critical buildings.
  • Formal project management training and experience. PMP preferred.
