Opportunity Overview
The Data & BI Analyst II is responsible for providing actionable insights and support business decisions. They work in collaboration with other analysts and stakeholders on the formulation of appropriate analytic approach to solve ambiguous business problems. This role offers you the flexibility to make each day your own to work on audits of Edward Jones' internal groups and identify risk and/or process gaps using analytics, tools and other technology to deliver on the responsibilities outlined below.
Essential Functions:
  • Maintain a proven understanding of division results & key business drivers, as well as an understanding of key business strategies & priorities, apply business knowledge to analytic approach to address business questions.
  • Build and maintain an exceptional knowledge of data sets available to the analyst. Extract, cleanse and transform data to support analysis needs. Pressure test and validate logic and outputs against known sources and business acumen. Proactively identify data quality issues.
  • Provide actionable insights to support business outcomes, primarily by performing root cause, exploratory, sensitivity and scenario analysis, hypothesis testing, economic modeling, and data visualization to identify patterns/trends/insights etc. on ambiguous business problems
  • Autonomously generate and incorporate insights into a cohesive story that clearly addresses business questions. Effectively communicate with business partners and non- technical audience regarding analytic ideas, approach, key takeaways, and actionable insights.
  • Develop and manage business relationships with project team members and leaders across the organization. Consult with business owners to understand the business problem. Collaborate with to identify the appropriate analytic approach to solve the problem.
  • Document, monitor, and proactively recommend improvements to processes and controls related to areas of responsibility.
  • Head the development and monitoring of KPIs and benchmarks. Ability to communicate results to senior leaders.
  • Serve as a technical and functional data subject matter expert.
Functional Knowledge:
  • Requires conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within a job discipline
  • Requires expanded conceptual knowledge in own job discipline and broadens capabilities
  • Proficiency interacting with various database and file storage systems (e.g., Oracle, Hadoop, NoSQL).
  • Understanding of join types.
  • Experience with data manipulation languages, such as SQL, required.

Position Requirements
Experience Required:
  • 3-5 years' experience in relevant field.
  • At least 2 years of analytics experience.

Education Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in business, economics, math, engineering, or analytics preferred (or relevant work experience).
  • Previous financial services industry experience with data is preferred.
  • Coursework or background in: Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, or Information Systems preferred.
  • CFA, FRM/PRM, CIA, CPA, CFE, CISA, CISM, or CISSP preferred.

Business Expertise:
  • Maintain an excellent understanding of division results & key business drivers, as well as an understanding of key strategies & priorities of business, to be able to apply business knowledge to analytic approach to address business questions.
  • Drive measurement and improvement strategies by connecting business activity to outcomes that will help achieve stated goals.
  • Applies general knowledge of business developed through education or past experience.
  • Understands key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work.

Audit Qualifications:
  • Perform ad hoc/develop automated analytic routines to support audit testing; document and contribute to audit work papers (including analytic procedures / results and audit issue writeups) to support audit findings.
  • Identify opportunities to produce/contribute to dashboards that leverage business data to help the department continuously monitor and audit for key risks to the organization.
  • Assist with tracking results of prior audits, identifying audit themes across organizations and establishing if appropriate corrective action has been taken regarding significant audit concerns
  • Build and maintain relationships with business partners at the manager and staff levels, providing advice and sharing Internal Audit knowledge with business partners to enhance governance, risk, and control environments, as appropriate.
  • Provide informal, day-to-day coaching and guidance to other Internal Auditors in the department, sharing your knowledge to help build data literacy and ability across Internal Audit.
Skills related to risk assessment and management including evaluating design of controls, conducting impact assessments, identifying control gaps, and mitigating risk.
Candidates that live within in a commutable distance from our Tempe, AZ and St. Louis, MO home office locations are expected to work in the office three days per week, with preference for Tuesday through Thursday.
