Job Description
SUMMARY:
Montclair State University seeks a Data Analytics Developer. Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, the Data Analytics Developer will be responsible for the full development life cycle with Cognos and Tableau reporting applications including gathering and documenting reporting requirements, managing data sources and data integrations, analysis, design, development, implementation and support of mission-critical reports and dashboards.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Gather business requirements and complete analysis, design, development, testing and implementation of reporting and analytic needs across the campus using Cognos and Tableau; Identify data sources required to build the reports, dashboards or analytics applications; build and maintain ETL/ELT processes using Workato, Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) and other integration tools to bring these data sources into the Operational Data Store (ODS); Monitor, investigate and troubleshoot data integrity and data quality between source systems (Banner, DegreeWorks, Workday, Slate, etc.) and ODS; Build queries, views, and/or Cognos packages to support reporting and analytics; Design and develop dashboards, visualizations using Tableau; Document requirements, designs and data/metadata definitions; Develop and manage reporting standards based on best practices while conforming to existing internal security guidelines; Implement guidelines and processes related to the functionality and administration of the developer toolset; Coordinate and manage updates and patches to keep reporting software platforms current; Performance tuning of existing reports; Provide on-going production support and ensure proper configuration of production and nonproduction environments; Contribute to report development end-user training and materials; conduct training sessions as necessary; Deliver Student Success Analytics requirements by designing solutions aligned with business processes and data needs; Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:
B.S. in Information Systems, B.S. in Computer Science, B.S. in Engineering, or B.S. degree in a directly related field from an accredited institution.
EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
At least two years of experience writing complex SQL, PL/SQL queries; At least three years of experience working with databases, data warehousing and ETL/ELT processes; At least four years of experience working with users in requirements gathering, developing and implementing reports and developing documentation; At least two years of experience working with Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), Workato, or SSIS; At least two years of experience working with Cognos product suite or similar reporting tools; At least two years of experience with performance tuning (i.e., optimizing execution time) of SQL reporting queries (i.e., queries designed to retrieve, organize, and format reports regarding data retrieved from databases by user-defined search parameters.) At least two years of working with Oracle or SQL server databases; At least two years of experience developing Tableau or SAP Business Objects dashboards; At least two years of experience with Tableau Server or SAS Enterprise Guide Server; At least two years of demonstrated experience working with Finance or Student ERP systems; At least two years of experience working with an advisory and analytics application such as EAB Navigate or a comparable product.
TELECOMMUTING AND RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the employee to report regularly to the physical office (150 Clove Rd., Little Falls, NJ 07424) but also allows for a part-time option of telecommuting. During summer semesters, the employee is permitted to telecommute but must report to the office at least two days per week. During all other semesters, the employee is permitted to telecommute but must report to the office at least three days per week. With regard to telecommuting locations, the employee is permitted to work from home, as described above, so long as the employee's home is located within the NY-NJ-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area.
SALARY RANGE: $108,039.74 to $112,000.00 per annum.
HOURS: 35 hours/week.
WORKSITE LOCATION: 150 Clove Rd., Little Falls, NJ 07424.
