Who We Are:
The Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group, (MAPMG) is one of the nation's premier multispecialty medical groups and is the largest integrated medical group in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Founded in 1980, the medical group has more than 1,700 Permanente physicians spanning more than 50 subspecialties. Together, we serve approximately 800,000 Kaiser Permanente members in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia at 34 area medical centers, plus several community hospitals and skilled nursing facilities.
About the Internship Program:
The internship program at MAPMG is a paid 12-week (or longer) program taking place year-round that is designed to expose undergraduate and graduate students to a wide range of career opportunities in the healthcare field with valuable professional skills that can be transferred to any occupation or industry. The internship program provides undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in health care systems, data analysis, consulting, project management, and strategic planning the opportunity to work on challenging projects in a professional environment.
Students selected for internships gain on-the-job training that integrates education and career development. They will work directly with a mentor, who will provide supervision and mentoring. Together, the intern and mentor will develop an internship plan identifying specific projects or assignments to ensure a meaningful learning experience.
Overview:
MAPMG is seeking a Data Analyst intern to assist in making strategic data-driven decisions by understanding the business use case, analyzing, manipulating, summarizing, and reporting findings. This may entail working with our data systems to pull information using SQL or Python, analyzing the information in Excel or Tableau, and presenting the data to various internal stakeholders. Develops analytical infrastructure such as database tables and views, and Tableau reports. Provides analytical and consulting support to MAPMG Leadership, under general supervision.
This internship will be based in Tysons Corner, VA with the ability to go into the office twice/week. Candidates must be local or willing to re-locate to the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area for the duration of the internship.

Responsibilities:
- Provides a high level of expertise in financial data. Responsible for programs, and manipulation of data as needed to assist in monthly reporting process.
- Performs complex analysis using SQL, Excel, Tableau, SAS, Python
- Acts as an advisor or thought partner by structuring undefined issues for resolution, summarizes information, and works with relevant stakeholders to remediate, resulting in sound and timely decisions.
- Responds to requests for detailed data to support report findings.
- Develops and maintains strong business relationships with internal business partners, including all levels of management, senior leaders, medical office controllers, and other data users.
- Becomes a knowledge expert of financial data that can assist other stakeholders with data requests, interpreting results, and infrastructure development
- Delivers high quality results on time.
Qualifications:
- Utmost integrity and highly ethical decision-making
- Must be a college student working towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human Resources or Data Analytics during the duration of the internship. Recent college graduates are ineligible
- Computer Science, Information Systems, Marketing Analytics, and Business Analytics major are highly encouraged to apply
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills required. Ability to clearly express complex analytical and technical information to senior management
- Experience with translating business partner needs into accurate and robust management reports
- Proficiency with SQL, Tableau, and Excel highly preferred
- Experience with Python and SAS is preferred but not required
- Working knowledge of the design, construction and use of complex relational databases (required)
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)
- Working knowledge of EPIC (Clarity) data systems preferred but not required
