Job Summary and Qualifications

**Please note, this is a remote position***

The Burn Registrar is responsible for data collection, both abstracting and analyzing, data entry, and data completion of the Burn patient population. He/she is also responsible for data submission/distribution/report generation to/for the appropriate parties within the designated timeframe. Communicates with burn service physicians in providing appropriate documentation for burn registry. This position assists with projects under the direction of the leadership in Burn Services. This position is responsible for aspects of the Burn Registry to include data abstraction, data entry, ICD-10 coding, report generation and all state, regional and national downloads. Works closely with the Burn coordinator and Burn service PI nurse to compile data for Burn Committee and Peer review. Assists in the preparation of documents for ABA/ACS Verification. Supports the Burn Program to ensure ABA Verification by the American Burn Association is maintained.


The Burn Registrar is responsible for all data collection, abstraction and entry of all burn patients (ICS-9 Codes 800-959.9) into the burn registry (BCQP).

  • Produces reports and analyses for internal and external customers, and supports the registry requirement for American Burn Association (ABA) verification. The Burn Registrar reports to the Burn Program Manager and Traum Burn Program Director.


Responsible for information management of the Burn population including; data entry into Burn Registry; coding all data fields appropriately; summarizing patient populations as it relates to clinical outcomes of all Burn patients using AIS scoring and ICD-9/10 codes while maintaining accuracy of 95% for all critical data entry elements/coded items. Ensures data integrity.

  • Abstracts and completes database entries from the medical records of burn patients in compliance with the following:
    • American Burn Association Standards
    • Burn Quality Improvement Program


  • Attends Program Performance, Peer Review, and other departmental or staff meetings as directed.


  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” and “Mission and Value Statement.”

What qualifications you will need:
  • Associates/Technical Degree preferred
  • BCQP, V5 Trauma Registry experience preferred
  • ICD-9 Coding experience preferred, Training within 6 months of hire
  • Previous experience with ICD-10 is preferred
  • On-going Burn Registry database training required
