Dairy Herd Manager

Job Summary:
We are seeking a Herd Manager to oversee the operations and management of our herd. The Herd Manager will be responsible for ensuring the health, well-being, and productivity of the animals under their care. This is a hands-on role that requires a strong understanding of animal husbandry practices and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Duties:
- Manage all aspects of herd management, including feeding, breeding, and healthcare
- Monitor the health and condition of animals, identifying and addressing any issues or concerns
- Milking cows as needed depending on staffing.
- Maintain accurate records of animal inventory, health records, and breeding history
- Oversee pasture management, including rotational grazing and irrigation
- Operate and maintain heavy equipment for feeding and manure management
- Perform basic repairs and maintenance on equipment as needed
- Assist with the training and supervision of farm staff in animal handling techniques
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards for animal welfare

Experience:
- Previous experience working with livestock or equine is required
- Strong knowledge of animal husbandry practices and herd management techniques
- Mechanical knowledge for operating and maintaining farm equipment
- Proficiency in using hand tools for basic repairs and maintenance
- Ability to handle animals safely and confidently, with experience in animal handling techniques
- Capable of performing heavy lifting tasks as required in a farm environment
- Basic math skills for recordkeeping and inventory management
