Position Number 126615 Hiring Unit Work Location Pullman Zip Code 99164 This position is in a Bargaining Unit No Summary of DutiesThe Dairy Farm Operations Manager is responsible for the management of the
Department of Animal Sciences Dairy herd (Knott Dairy Center). The manager is
responsible for the planning, timing, and directing of personnel resources and
facilities for major milking cow herd and replacement heifer events (calving,
breeding, milking, nutrition and feeding, health care, forage utilization, and
pasture schedules, milk and livestock sales). This position coordinates
resources, time and facility issues, communications and organizational issues to
coordinate multiple research, extension , and class usages. Additionally, the
manager teaches classes and advises students as assigned by the department
chair. The Dairy Farm Operations Manager is an important representative of the
Department of Animal Sciences, WSU, and the dairy cattle industry.

Position Term in Months 12 Monthly Salary Commensurate with qualifications and experiencePositions require a Bachelor's degree in zoology, animal science, or closely related field and three (3) years of experience in a laboratory animal care facility which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and progressively responsible animal care experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a yearforyear basis. Certification as a Laboratory Animal Technologist may be required within one (1) year of employment.
Additional RequirementsThree (3) years experience managing a dairy cattle operation.
A minimum 1 year of supervisory experience and a 1 year teaching experience.
Knowledge and experience with the dairy industry.
Knowledge and experience with pasture and range management.
Knowledge and experience with budgeting and economic forecasting.
Must have demonstrated ability to operate heavy equipment safely.
Must be able to obtain a pesticide/herbicide license within six (6) months of hire.
Possession of, or ability to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license.
Possession of, or ability to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) within three (3) months of hire.
Master's degree in Animal Sciences or related field.
