This person is responsible for assisting in the accessioning, preparation, and processing of gynecological, non-gynecological, surgical, and fine needle aspiration specimens for evaluation and pathologic diagnosis.

Position Hours:

FT, 32 hours, Day Shift

You Will Be Responsible For:
  • Receives specimens, verifies two patient identifiers, performs routine specimen processing according to established protocols, including preparation of thin preps, touch preps, and cell blocks. Careful handing of specimens is required as many are irreplaceable specimens (ex. Cerebrospinal fluids).
  • Assists radiologist with the collection of Fine Needle Aspirate specimen, preparation of direct smears, triage of specimens for ancillary molecular testing, and collection of core biopsies. Assists surgeons with specimen collection and slide staining during EBUS and Navigational Bronchoscopy procedures in the operating room.
  • Follows all Laboratory policies and procedures, performs and documents all routine equipment maintenance, records daily QC logs, troubleshoots and documents equipment failures/errors, problem solves and documents specimen issues, handles and disposes of chemical and biohazardous waste properly, files slides and cell blocks, maintains inventory, orders reagents and supplies, and maintains clean work area at all times.
  • Registers and accessions specimens into the laboratory LIS.
  • Slide routing to include: accurate printing of labels from LIS, labeling of slides, assignment of slides, and delivery to pathologists.
  • Communicates in an effective and professional manner with clients, clinicians, and internal departments.
  • Prepares and packages send-out tests to reference laboratories.


What you need:
  • Education: Minimum - High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Lab experience preferred with: Cytology laboratory, Hologic TomCat, T-5000, Compass Autostainer, Manual and automated coverslipping, Hologic Imager, Hologic T-2000 processors, centrifuge, sterile hood, Hologic Cellient cell block processor, Abott UroVysion Molecular testing platform (proper credentials required), EPIC Beaker LIS, and EPIC EMR.
  • Job Skills Analytical skills, ability to prioritize and manage workload, self-motivated, detail oriented, organized, excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work independently and to work within a team atmosphere.
