Job description

The purpose of the Cyber Security Engineer position is to support the Bath Iron Works (BIW) Cyber Security mission to defend BIW’s computer systems and data in an increasingly hostile threat landscape. Primary duties will include configuring, maintaining, and testing cyber defense solutions. This position is part of a team at BIW that is responsible for information security and compliance. 

 

Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify gaps in cyber detection and defense capabilities and recommend improvements.
  • Design and implement new cyber detections in a Security Information Event Management (SIEM) solution.
  • Assist IT infrastructure team to ensure cyber components are installed, updated and functional across IT landscape.
  • Provide cyber technical guidance and implementation support for enterprise projects.
  • Assist with implementation of network cyber defense capabilities.
  • Support cyber investigations as needed.
  • Assist with design and delivery of cyber metrics to ensure continuous compliance.
  • Document activities and continuously improve documentation for cyber tooling.
  • Assist with implementation of counter-measures or mitigating controls.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity or Information Technology or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • 3-5 years of experience working in Cyber Security is required.
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking OSI model.
  • Competent with core Internet services such as DNS, SMTP and HTTP.
  • Python and PowerShell scripting experience preferred.
  • This position requires you to be able to obtain a government security clearance.  You must be a US Citizen for consideration and you must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within the first 45 days of hire.  For more information regarding the security clearance process, please visit Investigations & Clearance Process (dcsa.mil)

  • 3-5 years of experience working in Cyber Security is required.
  • Experience working with a variety of cyber or information security tools such as SIEM, Endpoint. Detection & Response, Intrusion Prevention Systems, firewalls.
  • Experience integrating cyber tools.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the cyber threat landscape.
  • Familiarity with Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) cyber controls is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
