Job description

  • Assures that BMW is in compliance with the laws and regulations of US Customs and Border Protection, Bureau of Industry and Security, and all other government agencies that impact Customs and Export Control compliance.
  • Drives efforts to minimize expenses, reduce delays and secure the various supply chains with which BMW is involved.
  • Supports the Customs and Export Control governance efforts and ensures that all BMW entities operating in the US are fully compliant with US trade compliance regulations.
  • Implements Customs and Export Control processes and projects as assigned by management to include providing systems development support (requirements/design/testing).
  • Maintains Customs and Export Control process documentation and work instructions in accordance with management approvals.
  • Enables, runs and operates processes and systems as related to Customs and Export Control.
  • Monitors processes performed by external service provider(s) to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Identifies process gaps/inefficiencies/improvements, communicates to management and implements solutions as aligned with management.
  • Drives efforts to minimize expenses, reduce delays and secure the various supply chains with which BMW is involved as aligned with management.
  • Attends continuing professional education as required for Customs and Export Control compliance and monitors the latest developments in US trade compliance legislation.
  • Develops effective BMW network and US Customs partnerships as relevant for Customs and Export Control processes and projects.
  • Cross trains and provides back up to the Customs and Export Control team.
  • Supports internal and external trade compliance audit activities as assigned by management.
  • Supports risk assessments to identify Customs and Export Control related compliance concerns and supports implementation of their resolution.
  • Serves as a consultant and provides necessary services to other departments concerning Customs and Export Control issues.
  • Supports standardization and harmonization of Customs and Export Control compliance operations and processes within US BMW entities in the assigned field/responsibility.
  • Understands and models VPS (Value Added Production System) Principles and concepts of Standard Work and Problem Solving.
  • Adheres to 5S and Safety Standards and Principles.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

  • BA/BS degree, preferably in International Business, International Studies or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a Customs and Export Control compliance related capacity.
  • As applicable, per BMW training guidelines.
  • Licensed Customs Broker (LCB).
  • 3+ years of knowledge of Customs and Export Control regulations.
  • 3+ years of experience demonstrating computer skills to include MS Office and Windows.
  • 1+ years of SAP experience, especially in FI, MM, SD modules or SAP GTS or other Customs and Export Control applications (preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience demonstrating strong analytical skills.
  • 3+ years of experience working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • 3+ years of experience demonstrating effective communication skills.
  • 3+ years of experience working in a customer-focused environment.
  • Basic German or Spanish foreign language skills (preferred).
  • Prior international and/or automotive industry experience (preferred).
