Job description

Department: Durable Medical Equipment (DME)

Job Title: Customer Service Representative

Reports To: DME Manager

Job Summary: The Customer Service Representative performs a variety of support duties within the DME department. The work performed in this position helps expedite the billing for Durable Medical Equipment including CPAP/BiPAP services, fill orders for patients for DME items, and assist with patients in the store.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with completing billing for DME items and from the storefront in a timely manner and according to insurance guidelines
  • Assist with scheduling appointments for the Respiratory Therapist
  • Assist with delivering stock to the closets and ensuring closets and storefronts are in good physical condition
  • Deliver items as needed to customers from the DME storefront
  • Assist with receiving inventory and unpacking, assembling, and stocking inventory in the DME storefront
  • Provide coverage to the DME storefront(s) - this will involve waiting on customers, answering the phone, checking messages, and other necessary tasks that arise
  • Assist with cleaning and repair of rental equipment
  • Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers at all times
  • Complete necessary paperwork to ensure Medicare and insurance guidelines are met when applicable
  • Follow proper procedure for taking payments for items sold from the DME storefront and payments on accounts

Assist with scheduling appointments for the Respiratory Therapist

Stay updated on DME products and billing regulations


This position requires excellent Customer Service skills, both internal and external, strong organizational skills, strong interpersonal communication skills combined with the ability to multitask, typing/keyboarding skills, basic math skills, and basic insurance, Explanation of Benefits and patient account knowledge.

Educational Requirements: High School Diploma plus experience with DME equipment required.

Physical Requirements: Lifting up to 50 pounds, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, as well as repetitive use of hands and fingers.
