ABOUT AUGUSTA TECHNICAL COLLEGE

Augusta Technical College, a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia, is a two-year college located in Augusta, Georgia. Since its opening in 1961, Augusta Technical College remains dedicated to promoting the educational, economic, and community development in its service area (Burke, Columbia, Lincoln, McDuffie, and Richmond Counties). The college offers over 100 academic programs in high-demand areas such as Allied Health Sciences & Nursing, Business, Public & Professional Services, Cyber, Digital and Engineering Technologies accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The college also offers adult education/GED, ESL, and continuing education programs through the Division of Economic Development.

Salary: $33,082.46-42,809.03; commensurate with education and work experience.

JOB SUMMARY

The Custodial Supervisor is responsible for supervising and participating in the custodial maintenance of assigned college buildings and facilities.

MAJOR DUTIES

1. Trains, assigns, directs, supervises and evaluates the work of employees engaged in maintaining the proper care of the College.

2. Assists in the interview and selection of members of the custodial staff.

3. Coordinates, plans and supervises custodial operations for special events.

4. Maintains an inventory and recommends selection of suitable custodial supplies.

5. Inspects the performance of the custodial staff on a regular basis ensuring the completion of work assignments.

6. Maintains time and vacation/holiday records and work schedules of custodial staff.

7. Receives, investigates, responds, and/or resolves complaints regarding custodial services.

8. Performs a variety of duties related to the job, such as painting, replacing light bulbs, hanging curtains, moving furniture, etc.

9. Drives motor vehicles to reach various job sites in order to facilitate custodial operations.

10. Oversees the mailroom; retrieves, sorts mail, including packages, by building.

11. Provide training and professional development for custodians.

12. Conduct on-the-job training to improve skills of workers.

13. Assist in the work of the crew as special skills and abilities are needed.

14. Make inspections to assure safe working conditions and procedures and instruct workers in safety procedures.

15. Communicate effectively with workers, administrators and other contact persons.

16. Maintain safety inspection records to reflect proper working conditions for equipment.

17. Follow attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules.

18. Ensure adherence to good safety standards.

19. Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.

20. Model and maintain high ethical standards.

21. Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.

22. Participate successfully in the training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assignment.

23. Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.

24. Exhibit interpersonal skills as an effective team member.

25. Demonstrate support for the school system and its goals and priorities.

26. Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement.

27. Prepare all required reports and maintain all appropriate records.

28. May be required to work beyond the 40-hour work week.

29. Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Three (3) years of related experience.

3. Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

COMPETENCIES

Knowledge of methods, procedures, and skills of crafts and trades. Knowledge of various types of public works projects. Knowledge of effective supervisory techniques. Knowledge of the use and capabilities of public works equipment and machinery. Knowledge of safety rules and safe operating procedures. Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of crews engaged in a variety of work. Ability to understand, interpret, and carry out written and oral instructions effectively, accompanied by construction plans or simple blueprints. Ability to keep records and make reports. Physical strength and agility to work out-of-doors, occasionally under adverse weather conditions and long hours. Knowledge of the applicable building and electrical codes.
