Position: Custodian
Reports to: Program Director/ Assistant Program Director and designated Facilities Manager
Location: 968 Third Avenue, Sunset Park - Brooklyn, NY 11232
Hours: Full Time – 35 Hours
Schedule: Tuesday - Wednesday 11 am to 7pm Thursday – Saturday 12 pm to 8 pm.
Salary Range: $16/hour annualized to $29,120 - $29,120
Position Summary
The custodian worker is responsible for maintaining the interior and exterior of the building, ensuring a safe, clean and pleasant environment for all staff, residents and visitor.
Responsibilities:
- Provide daily cleaning of the facility and facility grounds, including snow and ice removal.
- Maintain the exterior of the building free from graffiti and other conditions that are unsightly.
- Perform routine maintenance inspections.
- Conduct routine inspections and preform seasonal cleaning and repairs of A/C and heating units.
- Strip and wax floors.
- Clean and replace light bulbs, clean light fixtures.
- Remove debris/leaves from the roof to unclog drains and prevent building leaks.
- Clean all bathrooms including fixtures, urinals, toilets, wash halls and tiles.
- Remove, Recycle, garbage and trash.
- Preform other related duties as directed by a maintenance manager or transitional housing manager.
- Keep inventory of distributed sanitary supplies as needed.
- Unpack and stock supplies.
- Inform Supervisor of needed sanitary and cleaning supplies.
- Repair equipment and furniture as needed.
- Assemble furniture, equipment and other miscellaneous items.
- Assist with deliveries, pick-ups and drop-offs as needed.
- Perform maintenance and minor repairs (replacing broken switches, fixing door handles, minor leaks etc.)
- Report major damages and oversee repairs
- Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows and setting up the alarm
Essential Functions:
- MUST be able to regularly lift up to 50 pounds.
- MUST be able to ascend/descend up to 8 flights of stairs.
- MUST be able to work with hazardous substances with proper protective equipment.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Commitment to BCS’s mission, vision, and values
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Ability to interact with the client population.
- Ability to effectively work in a team environment
- DRIVERS LICENSE with clean driving record - IS A HUGE PLUS!
- Previous maintenance experience preferred
