MAIN FUNCTIONS:

The Custodial Associate at the museum plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and engaging environment for children and their families. This position involves performing a variety of custodial tasks to ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of the museum's exhibit spaces, play areas, restrooms, and public spaces. Additionally, our outdoor pavilion needs upkeep on a seasonal basis. The Custodial Associate will work with other team members to contribute to the overall guest experience and support the mission of the Mid-Hudson Discovery Museum.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and vacuuming, to maintain cleanliness in all areas of the museum, with a particular focus on exhibit spaces, play areas, and high-touch areas.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms regularly, ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for children and their families.
• Monitor and replenish restroom supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper, to ensure availability at all times, as well as hand sanitizer dispensers around the museum.
• Empty trash and recycling receptacles and ensure proper disposal.
• Ensure all windows, plexiglass, and mirrors are wiped down.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of storage areas, custodial closet, and equipment.
• Serve as support for events and parties both indoors and outdoors, ensuring spaces are tidy and cleaned and assisting with set-up/breakdown.
• Interact with guests in a friendly and professional manner, providing assistance and answering questions when needed.
• Perform all responsibilities listed above for the museum’s pavilion on a seasonal basis (spring – fall). This includes but is not limited to: restrooms, parking lot, storage and utility spaces, venue space, waste disposal.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Family-friendly, hands-on (and sometimes messy!) museum environment. Usually high energy and busy, but can also have occasional slow periods.
• Must have knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, materials, and equipment, with an emphasis on child-safe and non-toxic cleaning products.
• Must be able to lift and move 30 pounds (water buckets, cleaning solution, boxes of supplies, etc.).
• Must have the physical endurance and willingness to work on feet for a significant portion of each day
• Seasonally will be outside while working in our pavilion and servicing the parking lot

TIME COMMITMENT:

This position is part-time; anticipated hours are 15-20 hours/week. Weekend, holiday and evening availability is required.

The Mid-Hudson Discovery Museum is open:

• Tuesday through Saturday 9:30 am - 5:00 pm
• Sunday 11:00 pm - 5:00pm

Plus:

• Select Holiday Mondays 9:30 am - 5:00 pm
• Mondays in July and August 9:30 am – 5:00 pm
• Select evenings 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm
