Title: Curriculum Director

Reports To: Chief Operating Officer

Wage: 46,000-51,000

Status: Full-Time, With Benefits,


PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Responsible for curriculum and training design along with content development. Responsible for the development

and training of high quality developmentally-appropriate and culturally-relevant youth programming for a target age groups and content area. This position will leverage youth development principles and methods in the design and development of program experiences and curriculum. This position will be trained in Youth Work Methods (Weikart), become a Tier 1 Trainer through BGCA, along with other methods and curriculum. Responsible for all clubs to have effective programming in the five core program areas: Health & Wellness, Sports & Recreation, The Arts, Character & Leadership, Academics; Analyze data from YPQA, NYOI and any other evaluation services to find program areas needing improvement.


KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Prepare Youth for Success

  • Develop, plan, and maintain the administration of a broad range of Club programs, curriculum and activities in the areas of Character & Leadership, Academics, Health and Wellness, The Arts, and Sports & Recreation.

  • Establish and maintain program objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission.

  • Support and provide training to Clubs to support local program implementation.

Program Development and Implementation

  • Create and sustain program procedures and guidelines, as well as high-quality standards of practice.

  • Ensure program evaluations address desired outcomes, are conducted on a regular basis and the data is analyzed to drive program effectiveness.

  • Review curriculum to ensure it is relevant by getting staff feedback and doing observations

  • Creating guides (quick games, outside/inside games etc)

  • Facilitate learning communities composed of professionals from local Boys & Girls Clubs to support content strategy and program development.

  • Engage in thought leadership opportunities to advance solutions in the assigned target age group and content area.

Supervision

  • Directly supervise curriculum program specialists and managers.

  • Identify and support training and development opportunities for assigned volunteers and staff.

  • Identify and support training and development opportunities for leadership staff professional development.

    • Oversee proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted, notable achievements and any problems/issues.

    • Monitor program delivery and work with staff to plan and implement improvements.

    • Train and guide program staff to ensure an environment that promotes the physical, social and emotional well-being of youth, that incorporates guidance and discipline principles and that ensures understanding of designated programs and creating a fun, safe, and engaging environment.

    • Marketing and Public Relations
    • Increase visibility of Club programs via posting of daily schedule, announcements of upcoming events and the dissemination of timely information for the development of advertising and promotion through mailings, fliers and media releases.

    • Engage in community outreach to promote programs and services to increase visibility with partner agencies and potential donors


    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • May oversee special programs and/or events (i.e. Keystone, Youth of the Year and Awards Programs).

    • May be required to drive Club van periodically

    • Purchase or approve purchase of supplies and equipment.

    • May participate in organizational programs and/or events.

    • Assume other duties as assigned.


    RELATIONSHIPS:
    Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and COO to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel.
    External: Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, member's parents and other to assist in resolving problems.
    SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
    • Four year degree in related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.

    • Minimum of two years work experience in a Boys or Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people.

    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

    • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.

    • Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities.

    • CPR and First Aid Certifications, or ability to become certified upon hire.


    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT/QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Must be able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time.

    • Must hold a valid driver’s license and proper automobile insurance.

    • Must be able to squat or bend to communicate at youths’ level.

    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 10 pounds for short periods of time.

    • Must be able to participate in physical activities throughout the facility, on the property and/or on field trips.
