08/09/2023The Prevention Initiative (PI) Specialist will assist the Student Services Coordinator with day-today responsibilities of the Birth to Five program including the Prevention Initiative and the Mountaintop Project. The role of the Curriculum and Instruction Specialist is to build home visitors capacity and to enhance their understanding and implementation of curriculum, instruction, assessment, best practices, provide ongoing coaching, and design and implementation of professional development. Essential
Duties and Responsibilities: The following identifies the primary and essential functions of the assignment and is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties.
1. Support the instructional development of all home visitor in understanding the curriculum, instruction, and assessment processes;
2. Build strong, positive relationships with home visitors, administrators, students, parents and community members;
3. Using data, identify areas of focus and establish yearly goals;
4. Provide coaching and coordination for how the curriculum is taught consistent with Parent As Teachers (PAT) initiatives and recognized best practices;
5. Supervise and support group connection activities;
6. Support team and administrators in using data to improve programming;
7. Implement PD activities by presenting directly to staff or scheduling individuals to present activities to staff, individuals, or as needed;
8. Contribute to the development of systems and structures to improve program practice;
9. Assist home visitors in creating materials that are aligned with curriculum;
10. Encourage and provide ongoing professional growth for all staff;
11. Assist with program motoring by ISBE and PAT;
12. Work with the new home visitors on-boarding to support them as needed;
13. Links parent/caregiver with agencies and resources in Lake County that provide social services for families;
14. Evaluation of home visiting staff with PAT criteria;
15. Assist home visitors with their support of the parent/caregiver of young children within a variety of settings including homes, daycares, and other community sites;
16. Serves as a liaison between parents/caregivers and District;
17. Ensure and support the parent/caregiver's involvement in outreach efforts that are consistent with the mission and vision of the Mountaintop Project and Prevention Initiative;
18. Monitors the compiled materials and created files for documentation of compliance with the Mountaintop Project and Prevention Initiative;
19. Support and monitor the closing documentation for children being exited from the program in accordance with program guidelines;
20. Facilitates the accurate, timely completion and submission of required documents by team members;
21. Prepares and maintains accurate records regarding all aspects of parent/caregiver meetings/activities/surveys for the purpose of Mountaintop Project and Prevention Initiative compliance;
22. Attends all meetings regarding the parent/child including Mountaintop and Prevention Initiative committee meetings; and
23. Performs other relevant duties as assigned
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The following identifies the knowledge, skills, and abilities that are essential for the Child Development Liaison (this is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties).
1. Knowledge of and respect for the diverse backgrounds (cultural, linguistic, environmental) of students and how these characteristics affect the student's life and learning; 2. Knowledge of relevant laws, rules, and regulations specific to the District;
3. Knowledge of the similarities and differences between cognitive, communicative, physical, social, and emotional needs of students and the factors that influence these different needs;
4. Interpersonal and social skills;
5. Oral and written communication skills;
6. Ability to assist and reinforce elements that support safe, healthy child development;
7. Ability to be sensitive and respectful in communications regarding all children and families, regardless of differences in cultural heritage, lifestyle, values, and home environment;
8. Ability to establish and maintain rapport with families;
9. Ability to prepare and organize materials to support parent/caregiver and families;
10. Ability to problem solve;
11. Ability to support parent/caregiver's role in child's development;
12. Ability to use ethical practices for confidential communication about child/parent/caregiver;
13. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with families and other external stakeholders; and
14. Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
1. Master's degree (preferred) in social work or other human-services related fields from an accredited college or university preferred.
2. Experience in early childhood development and special needs.
3. 5 years of professional experience
4. Fluent in English, Spanish preferred.
5. Must have the capability to observe home and daycare visits.
6. Ability to work in multi-disciplinary team settings.
7. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, or similar applications.
8. Travel between multiple sites is required.
9. Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
10. A Criminal Background Check must meet the requirements of the State of IL licensure for day programming.
11. Self-motivated and able to work independently.
12. Must be organized and able to handle multiple tasks.
13. Must be honest, dependable, and able to meet deadlines.
14. Must exercise sound judgment in making decisions and act accordingly.

Special Requirements: Experience and knowledge in the area of research-based home visiting practices
Physical Requirements: Individuals appointed to these assignments must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the assignment.
Reports To: This job assignment falls under the direction of the Executive Director of Student Services
Salary Range: Per 2023-24 Bargained Agreement
