General Purpose of Position:
Oversees the overall supervision of kitchen services including purchasing, preparation and serving of meals.
Primary Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Assists the Culinary Specialists in supervision, preparation and serving of meals
- Manages and rotates walk-in, freezer and all other storage areas.
- Coordinates the preparation and serving of therapeutic diets to patients as required assuring compliance with standards of the American Dietetic Association, following the recommendations of the Dietitian.
- Schedules dietary staff efficiently and within budget guidelines. Approves electronic timecards.
- Provides backup to Culinary Specialists, assuming duties and responsibilities in their absence
Education, Skills and Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or general education diploma (GED) required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics or Graduate of a Culinary School preferred.
- Serve Safe Certification or Food Handlers Card required. Valid State Driver’s License.
- Minimum of one years experience in quality food preparation.
- One year supervisory experience in an institutional, commercial or hospital setting preferred
- Ability to effectively read, write and process information; ability to input/retrieve information to/from computer and files.
- Ability to converse with others to give, take and process information in English; extensive use of telephone. Ability to hear alarms and pages.
- Occasional/limited exposure to: Infection and to the risk of blood borne diseases; hazardous agents, body fluids and wastes; unpleasant patient or departmental elements; to potentially violent/aggressive patients/staff/visitors, critical incidents, and/or sentinel events. Occasionally needed to work irregular hours or additional hours.
