Summary:
Under general direction of a principal, provides leadership in an educational environment that encourages and nurtures learning for all students. Provides quality standards-based instruction in the area of Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Education; assesses and encourages student progress, manages an effective learning environment to maximize student achievement.
Essential Duties
Students develop personal effectiveness and industry-relevant technical skills as they explore and pursue career pathways aligned to the Family and Consumer Sciences National Standards.
Core areas of the FCS discipline include:
Required Degree Level: Bachelor's
Examples of Related Degrees: Family and Consumer Sciences; Youth, Family and Community Sciences; Family and Community Services
Required Years of Work Experience for the CTE Restricted route: 2 years
Examples of Related Work Experience: interior designer, cafeteria manager, food service manager, extension specialist, adult education, preschool/day care director, social worker, family counselor, financial planner, community service manager, community health educator, fashion/textile designer, chef, restaurant manager, dietitian, nutritionist, catering manager, hospitality manager, kindergarten teacher, preschool teacher
Notes: For foods courses, culinary courses, and courses with foods units ANSICFP Accredited Food Protection Manager Certification is required prior to teaching. CPR training is preferred.

Essential Duties
- Plan, organize, and teach a competency-based CTE program in FACS curriculum.
- Provides the bridge needed by all students to deal with major societal issues such as work-and-family, health care, child and elder care, family and community violence and crime, global economics and politics, and technology usage.
- Demonstrate effective classroom and computer lab management
- Assist in coordination of CTE Student Organization activities for local, regional, state and/or national competition
- Participates in field trips to post-secondary institutes, worksites, businesses and hands-on workshops
- Assist in development of and participate in activities designed to promote an innovative business and technology program
- Develop community and industry partnerships for students
