CT Tech (PT, Sat/Sun, 7a-7p)
The CT Technologist performs radiologic procedures and assists physicians and radiologists at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Responsible for special procedures, OR procedures, CT scans, and related quality control monitoring as assigned. Ensures patient comfort and safety during procedures. Ensures a high quality of images produced.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Director of Radiology Services, the CT Tech is responsible for the availability and sterility of equipment and supplies used for assigned areas. Performs other related duties as assigned. These responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Competently performs all Radiographic procedures (OR procedures, radiology, interventional, bone density, CT) without requiring constant supervision.
  • Uses suitable positioning and/or immobilizing to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest with respect to the patient's physical and psychological needs as determined by age, ability, and comfort.
  • Understands and applies aseptic, surgical, and radiological techniques (ie: tray preparation, sterile draping, and patient preparation).
  • Adequately prepares equipment and instruments for interventional/invasive procedures.
  • Verifies signed informed consent and properly prepares patient for CT interventional/invasive procedures.
  • Recognizes physician needs during the CT interventional/invasive procedure and responds.
  • Presents exam education to the patient prior to the exam, and gives post-procedure instructions pertinent to the CT interventional/invasive procedure performed.
  • Properly prepares the patient for interventional CT procedures.
  • Reports CTIDL accurately for documentation purposes.
  • Follows the appropriate protocol for radiation safety and quality control.
  • Is responsible for inventory and control of specific CT supply items such as biopsy needles, pressure injector syringes, interventional sets, etc. in the work area.
  • Reviews each examination for technical accuracy, presents completed examination to radiologist, and communicates to persons responsible for patient care following the procedure.
  • Knowledge of reconstruction protocols (i.e., 3D, angio, image fusion, etc.)
  • Understands knowledge of tele-radiology (including digitizer) and/or PACS equipment and software and is able to use the system(s).
  • Implementation of Joint Commission, CMS, and State facility guidelines and standards, in particular, the integration of rehabilitation nursing into these standards.
  • Collaboration with radiology peers, the interdisciplinary team, and others who influence healthcare.
  • Creation of an environment and culture that enables the facility to fulfill its mission by meeting or exceeding its goals, conveying the facility mission to all staff, holding staff accountable for performance, motivating staff to improve performance, and being responsible for the measurement, assessment, and continuous improvement of the department.
  • Preserves and protects the confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights of patients and families and represents their concerns. Creates an individualized plan that accurately reflects patient and family values and goals. Identifies and helps resolve ethical and clinical concerns.
  • Uses strategies and available resources for problem-solving for patients, family, and staff. Recognizes that resources are limited and considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in planning and delivering patient care.
  • Improves radiology practices and the work environment through participating in shared governance and decision-making processes and meaningfully recognizing the contributions of others. Participates in the staffing process from education and planning to evaluation. Identifies personal goals and commits to ongoing professional growth through continuing education, networking with professional colleagues, membership, and involvement in professional radiology organizations, self-study, professional reading, certification, and seeking advanced degrees.
  • Knowledge and understanding of radiologic and patient care standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations; standards and guidelines of certifying and accrediting bodies; hospital and department/unit standards, protocols, policies and procedures governing the provision of nursing care applicable to the area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology; principles and practices of health promotion, risk reduction, illness and disease prevention and management.
  • Knowledge of medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
  • Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to observe changes in the medical condition of patients and effectively communicate these changes to other nursing/radiology staff members and physicians/providers.
  • General computer skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

  • Provide for guest relations and ensure the appearance of the facility and the manner in which program staff communicates with patients, families, referral sources and fellow staff is effective and professional.

•Collaborate with physician providers to identify preferences for practice, and integrate recommendations, where possible, ensuring regulatory compliance and patient safety.

Qualifications:
  • Evidence of Radiology Technology training from the United States Military or a graduate of an accredited school of Radiation Sciences is required.
  • ARRT certification is required, CT registry is required within 12 months of hire;
  • Two years experience as a staff technologist is preferred;
  • Current BLS required;
  • Demonstrates competence to develop and implementing organizational strategies and opportunities for improving the delivery of care to patients.
  • Maintain current knowledge and adhere to appropriate regulatory standards (i.e., Joint Commission, Medicare, Medicaid, employment regulations, etc).
