Description:
Under the direction of the CT Manager in collaboration with the CT Medical Director & the Director of Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging, the CT Modality Technical
Specialist Functions as the CT Technical "subject matter expert". This position is charged with the development & implementation of all clinical imaging protocols. The CT
Modality Technical Specialist also: acts as the chief educator/super trainer for all staff, oversees all CT research projects, directs quality for the modality, and serves as a
liaison between the equipment vendor, physicians, & staff. In addition this person performs technical procedures, applying computed tomography techniques that require
independent judgement, ingenuity and initiative in order to provide the physician with the highest quality of diagnostic information.
1. Under the direction of the medical director is responsible for the addition, deletion & maintenance of all exam protocols for all CT scanners in the LUHS enterprise.
Updates all protocol changes to all appropriate medical center staff.
2. Performs CT procedures in accordance with departmental guidelines to provide the physicians with the highest quality of diagnostic information. MAJOR WORK
ACTIVITIES: A) Prepares equipment & supplies necessary for CT procedure and explains the procedure to the patient and answers any questions prior to the performance
of the exam. B.) Obtains patient history pertinent to exam. C) Observes patient comfort & dignity. D) Produces high quality CT images. E) Adheres to procedure
protocols at all times. F) Correctly identifies study with patient identification and proper orientation. G) Send and verify exams in PACS. H) Archives/network examsaccording to department protocols. I) Performs all required hospital and departmental verification in an accurate & proficient manner to aid in a timely diagnosis and proper
billing.
3. Act as the chief educator & super trainer for all staff. MAJOR WORK ACTIVITIES: A) Responsible for professional educational growth of staff by developing
educational materials & creating & delivering lectures & in-services, B) Oversees the training of all staff: 1) in applying clinical protocols, 2) new applications for the
scanners & supporting equipment, and 3) playing a lead role in the orientation of new employees. C) Assists in the technical assessment of staffs' adherence &
competencies of scanning protocols. D) Develop staff competencies. E) Maintains current ARRT registration/certification by maintaining educational requirements. F)
Attends department in-services and section staff meetings. G) Completes all mandatory e-Learning modules & views any mandatory in-services videos. H) Participates in
outside seminars, readings, courses, and on-line offerings related to the field to stay abreast of advancing technology. I) Follows LUHS HIPAA procedures related to privacy
and confidentiality.
4. Maintains the departmental quality assurance program. MAJOR WORK ACTIVITIES: A) Responsible for all quality. B) Reviews quality test records/results &
implements corrective actions. C) Plays a pivotal role in the accreditation process of the CT section of the Department of Radiology by the American College of Radiology.
D) Ensures adherence to all Regulatory agencies applicable policies & guidelines.
5. Assists in coordinating the operations of the CT section in the absence of the manager. MAJOR WORK ACTIVITIES: A) In conjunction with the CT Assistant Manager
oversees the daily operations of the CT section. B) Trouble shoots equipment and arranges for repairs in the absence of the manager. C) Orders supplies as needed.
6. Works to align CT exams with research: A) Research protocol development. B) Research staff training. C) Research data collection and submission. D) Research billing
appropriateness.
