Job Description:
The Critical Operations Technician (COT) are Prime Data Center’s front line responders for hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operation. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, stand-by diesel generators, switchboards/switchgears, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems.
The COT maintains and follows the processes that maximize customer uptime in the most cost-effective way. Ensures that Data Center problems are identified and repaired quickly, that contractors deliver quality services, and that internal customer demands are met.
Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain mechanical and electrical, mechanical, emergency generator, and fire/life safety equipment within the Data Center.
  • Troubleshoot of facility events within internal SLAs.
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures
  • Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work
  • Work a 12-hour shift (3 and 4 day work weeks days or nights)
  • Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds/log taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.)
  • Perform BMS (Building Management System) Facility monitoring, logging, reporting, and trending of critical information.
  • Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows and spare part inventory
  • Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance
  • Fully comply with all physical security procedures and policies
  • Drive innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities
Basic Qualifications:
  • Two or more years of technical training, military training, or workplace equivalency
  • Background in areas of IT, electrical, and/or mechanical
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two or more years of work experience in Data Center environment or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
  • Possess an understanding of the mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems used in a Data Center environment including, but not limited to the following: electrical distribution and layout, Transformers, PLC’s, Generators, Switchgear, UPS systems, STS’, ATS’ PDU’s, Chilled Water Systems, CRAC/CRAH’s, Pre-Action Sprinkler Systems
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and compliance issues as well as building codes in regard to fire life safety
  • Current knowledge in industrial safety best practices (i.e., lockout/tag out, arc flash protection, OSHA, and state regulations)
  • Familiarity with data trending / tracking and analysis and the ability to utilize a PC based integrated critical monitoring systems
  • Ability to process Hands and Eye requests as required i.e., Tape Rotation, Rack and Stack of equipment, inventory hardware, power cycle devices, patch cable install/removal
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience installing, maintaining, and/or troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems including:
    • 480V Electrical Distribution Systems
    • Chilled/Condenser Water Pump
    • CRACs / CRAHs / DSE
    • Diesel Generators
    • Domestic Water systems, including Backflow Prevention devices
    • EPMS / BMS Systems
    • Fuel/Oil systems, Fuel/Oil Day tanks and Fuel/Oil Storage Tanks
    • HVAC equipment
    • Knowledge of NFPA 25, sprinkler and dry-stand pipe systems, including Emergency Fire Pump where applicable
    • Medium Voltage Switchgear
    • PLC and relay logic controls
    • STS / ATS
    • UPS Systems / Types
    • VFD Drives
    • VRLA / Li-Ion Batteries and Monitoring Systems
    • Water Treatment Systems
    • Well/Vault or Sump Pumps
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and internal staff and effectively work in team environment
  • Ability to coordinate, supervise, and communicate with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work on these systems.
  • Ability to learn quickly and address issues as they arise during normal working hours or after hours.
  • Ability to operate in and promote a rigorous process-driven team environment
  • Ability to logically analyze and solve problems
  • Ability to effectively multi-task multiple projects
  • Ability to operate Hand and Machine Tools (hammer, drill, saw, etc.)
  • Ability to operate electrical tools such as a multi-meter or infrared camera
  • Ability to operate a forklift
  • Must be comfortable working in a high stress, fast paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Must be able to work on a shift which may require nights, holidays, and some weekends.
  • Possess critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills
Physical Requirements:
All physical requirements are expected with reasonable accommodations

Hourly Pay Range - $30-$40/hr
